The municipal libraries serving over 500,000 users annually, making an average of 900 loans daily.
The municipality has 17 libraries, located in Beniaján, Cabeza de Torres, El Palmar, El Puntal, El Raal, Guadalupe, Nuevo Javalí, La Alberca, La Nora, Carmen, Espinardo, La Fama, Rio Segura, San Basilio, Bridge bacon, Sangonera the Verde and Santiago el Mayor (the latter about to be opened).
The Councillor for Education and Youth, María Dolores Sánchez, has begun a round of visits by municipal libraries to understand how it works, projects, programs, etc.
The municipal libraries have a fund consisting of 237,635 units, consisting of books and brochures (189,713 units), audio (14,242 units), videotapes (30,348 units) and electronic documents (3,332 units).
In 2009, a total of 283,945 loans, of which 13,549 were books and pamphlets were 13,816 sound recordings, videotapes and 2514 were 137,066 electronic documents.
Recorded a substantial increase in loans relative to 2008, which was 159,684 loans.
As users in 2009 were detected 491,139 users, of which 129,135 were children and other adults.
There were 336,642 readers, 133,790 students and 20,707 people participating in activities.
The number of users in 2008 was 443,308 people.
Among the main activities include:
- 'Story time', aimed at children, with 117 sessions held in February and March.
The activity resumed in October-November.
"Reading Clubs.
Aimed at adults, are meetings of people interested to read that comment one free.
Meetings are held monthly.
From January to May this year we have held 72 sessions.
Youth Reading Club.
Aimed at children and adolescents.
Takes place in the library Sangonera la Verde.
The frequency is every two months.
-Guided tours for schools.
From January to May this year there have been 48 views.
In addition, the Segura River Library (Artillery Barracks) has its own programming.
From January to May 2010 10,167 people have participated in the activities proposed by the municipal libraries.
From September, continues with the activities, "Storytime," book clubs and tours.
