Prison inmates Sangonera receive the Green in 2010 and for the fourth consecutive year, legal aid, under the agreement signed today between the Minister of Presidency and Public Administration, María Pedro Reverte, and the dean of the College of Lawyers Murcia, Francisco Martínez-Scribe.
The agreement includes five lawyers of the College to move to the Penitentiary, one afternoon a week to provide legal assistance to prisoners.
In each session, the lawyers serving an average of 80 inmates.
During 2009, the service handled 3,720 assists prisoners.
More than half of the doubts raised by prisoners could be resolved during the consultation with counsel, while the rest required a study, documentation and paperwork out of prison.
The service currently consists of 18 lawyers, who have been assigned to the program voluntarily.
These professionals attend for free consultations to raise the prisoners, without any implication that the lawyer have to attend in their domestic legal proceedings.
The agreement also provides that students in all Schools of Legal Practice in the Region to accompany the lawyers and so complete their training by conducting practices criminal law and prison visits.
Through this agreement, the Law Society received 12,000 euros this year to develop and provide legal counseling service prison.
