The University of Murcia will host during the month of April 2011 the national final of the XXII edition of the Physics Olympics, an event that has been underway since 1990 and has had as host cities such as Salamanca, Valencia, Madrid and Granada.
In the last edition held at the University of Alicante in the month of April this year 2010, for the first time in his twenty editions, were awarded the six representatives of the Region of Murcia.

Sanjuan and Ramon Alberto Carrión Román Roldán, University of Zaragoza and Granada, respectively, both members of the Royal Spanish Physical Society, today visited the University of Murcia, where they were received by the Rector, José Antonio Cobacho and the Vice-Chancellor University Extension Francisco Guillermo Díaz Baños, and by Antonio Guirao, coordinator of the Technology Department at the University of Murcia.
The Physics Olympics collect Spanish tradition of other countries like England or America.
This is an annual competition for high school students that aims to promote physics education and provide a meeting point for students and teachers, trying to discover and encourage the brightest high school students in the moments before his entry into the university.
The National Physics Olympiad 2011 in our region will host about 140 high school students selected among the brightest from around the country, from the winners to compete in the international final to be held in June 2011 in Zagreb.
