The dead in road accidents on urban roads in Murcia are reduced by 75% in recent years (22/02/2010)

The Mayor has offered this information in a parliamentary conference on road safety in cities held today in the Congress of Deputies

The Road Safety Plan 2007-2009 is based on improving the technical and the momentum of campaigns such as the Police Tutor or School Safe Way

The number of people who died from traffic accidents on urban roads of Murcia was reduced by 75% in 2007-2009, coinciding with the launch of a road safety plan in the municipality by the municipality.

Specifically, in 2008 killed ten people and half in 2009.

In that same period, and although the fleet grew by 66%, also recorded a decrease of 5% of the 3727 accidents in 2007 and 3507 in 2008 - and 21% in the number of people injured 1736 compared to 1400.

These are some of the data highlighted today by the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, in the Second Parliamentary Conference on Road Safety held today at the Congress of Deputies, where he has spoken at the table reserved for large cities with mayors of Madrid , Seville, Bilbao and Vigo.

The Road Safety Plan 2008-2009 is designed with the dual objective of promoting better traffic flow and greater safety of persons and vehicles, "progress in the design of a city designed for people and their safety," said House, who has insisted on the idea that "getting a safe and sustainable urban mobility is crucial to the quality of life."

To this end, the City made a major effort to improve the resources allocated.

Boost for e-police

A key part of road safety plan 2008-09 of Murcia was based on the training and education programs, including:

- Campaign targets people who perform parking, window cleaning and other activities on the road, causing a danger to themselves and other users.

- Safe School Road, led to 162 preschools and primary schools for its 42,877 students could be walking to school more safely.

To this end safe routes were studied and carried out activities in 135 schools that needed improvements in the tours.

- Police Tutor, fully integrated into the school community and to train students in nursery, primary and secondary education in road safety.
