Sucina pilot project to save energy, reduce CO2 emissions and promote renewable energy (29/01/2010)

The hamlet of Sucina participating in a pilot project called PEPESEC, funded by the European Union, which is the design and implementation of an energy plan with the objective that 20% of the energy consumed in the village proceed renewable sources, improving energy efficiency by 20% and 20% decrease in emissions of greenhouse gases.

This project is coordinated by the Department of Environment and Urban Quality, who runs Adela Martinez-Cache, with the advice of the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change of the City of Murcia (ALEM).

Technical Department of the Environment and Urban Quality Municipal presented the project to neighbors and Avileses Sucina collective, with the goal of everyone involved in this initiative.

They have also released the new neighbors Solar Thermal Ordinance, which came into force in October 2008 (developed in the project PROSTO).

Both projects are funded by the Intelligent Energy for Europe, the European Commission, which is one of the programs that divides the Framework Programme for Competitiveness and Innovation in the EU.

The goal is to make plans for achieving sustainable energy community.

The project will take place PEPESEC Sucina and Bacons Bridge.

The Hall has chosen these two districts as a model because the former is representative of the localities of Campo de Murcia, and the second from the garden.

Once implemented the plan, and after verifying their results, will be other villages.

Sucina has an area of 65 square kilometers with an annual population growth of 5.5% (83 inhabitants / year) and a population of 1,886 inhabitants.

The average growth in occupied housing is 6.4% (32 new homes occupied year) and the population has 663 occupied dwellings.

Sucina electricity consumption has increased slightly, by 1.8% per year in recent years.

The primary energy consumed is electricity, followed by natural gas.

Over 50% of energy consumed comes from petroleum.

Renewable energy consumed in Sucina currently represent 10% of primary energy consumed.

The Sucina Energy Plan, which is integrated into the municipal objectives of the Covenant of Mayors, aims to:

Renewable Energy

Currently, 10% of primary energy consumed from renewable sources Sucina.

To achieve the target of 20% is expected 10% penetration of biofuels in gasoline and diesel engines.

Implementation of solar thermal to produce hot water in 50 homes Sucina, and installation of a photovoltaic plant in a municipal farm produce 730,000 kWh annually.

Energy efficiency

The goal is to decrease by 20% of primary energy consumed in Sucina.

The current energy consumption in the district is 51,566,586 kWh annually.

To reduce consumption, improving the efficiency of public lighting by 30%, use LED lamps which consume less and last longer and use remote control systems.

Likewise, improving the efficiency of the vehicle fleet by 25%, improving engine technology, introducing hybrid and electric cars, and awarding grants.

Also expected to improve the insulation of 20 homes Sucina, changing the windows.

Mechanized mobility reduction and cycle

For Sucina neighbors leave the car at home will encourage the use of public transport, improving transport lines, and expand the network of bike paths.

In Campo de Murcia there are a total of 23.27 km of cycle paths currently in Cabezo -10.10 Km de la Plata, 10.96 km and 2.21 km Sucina in Gea y Truyols.

The planned bike lanes for a total of 66.47 miles The Bicycle Master Plan calls for the construction of 5.10 km of cycle paths in Sucina, 1.90 km and 4.70 km in Avileses in Gea y Truyols .

Farms with environmental improvement

Another objective of the plan is reforestal farms to make them green lungs for the city.

In Sucina 1,227,083 meters square (4 farms) were reforested to reduce CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.

In Avileses reforest 6 farms with a total of 1,227,376 m2, and San Pedro Canadas reforest eight properties with a total area of 4,029,525 m2.

It also aims to reduce GHG emissions (greenhouse gases) by 20%.

All these measures are aimed at 2020, are framed by the Local Strategy against Climate Change and is included in the municipal energy plan being drafted ALEM.
