The City Council is committed to introduce electric vehicles in the municipality and install recharging points (26/01/2010)

The Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-Cache, file a motion in Parliament next Thursday with the aim of the municipality of Murcia is included in the project MOVELE, launched by the Government of the Nation, which is the introduction of 2,000 electric vehicles in the city and charging points for these cars.

This initiative is being implemented in the cities of Barcelona, Madrid and Seville.

Murcia wants to be an active part of this plan and, within its Strategy to Combat Climate Change, there are numerous actions aimed at promoting sustainable mobility.

MOVELE project, managed and coordinated by IDEA (Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy), an entity under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, expected within two years the introduction, within the urban environments participating cities, 2,000 electric vehicles in various categories, services and technologies in a broad group of companies, institutions and individuals, as well as the installation of 500 charging points for these vehicles.

On February 24, 2009 IDEA approved three cooperation agreements with the municipalities of Sevilla, Madrid and Barcelona for the implementation and operation of the pilot network of public charging stations for electric vehicles.

Martínez-Cache proposed in Parliament to urge the National Government, through IDEA, which is Murcia active part of this project, of great interest to the municipality, together with Madrid, Seville and Barcelona.

The municipality of Murcia, thanks to measures implemented to promote sustainable mobility, and the Strategy to Combat Climate Change is available:

Demonstrate the technical feasibility and energy of electric mobility in our urban environment.

Promote this type of vehicles and associated refueling infrastructure and reserves parking spaces, among other measures.

Involve private sector in the introduction of electric vehicles.

Set the base to allow the development of policy measures that support this technology, fiscal measures, subsidies, modification of rules to its evolution, among others.
