The Civic Platform requires the Autonomous take urgent measures to end the dig, and make the consolidation and protection of "Andalusian palace complex and neighborhood of San Esteban" (22/01/2010)

Since late November, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism made public its intention to remove the reservoir to remove to ground level and to carry out a parking lot in San Esteban, many events have been developed.

The result thereof is that today, 45 days after the excavation was stopped, the site is not protected and the threat of an impending total burial by the City of Murcia.

To make matters worse, since the stop has been none since all institutions to the archaeologists who led the excavation from the start, despite being the only people inside and outside the Region of Murcia who know the details of the site.

The President of the Autonomous Community, D.

Ramón Luis Valcárcel, has said repeatedly that abiding by the decisions of the Committee of Experts, established by regional authorities themselves.

This Committee met on January 11 with President Valcárcel, the Minister of Culture and Tourism and the Director General of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of a series of agreements, which were released at a news conference by his spokesman Antonio Malpica, and we highlight the following three:

It should immediately resume the excavation works, together with the consolidation and protection of the already excavated.

The archaeologists who was in charge of the archaeological excavation should return immediately to the site.

The project of the City of Murcia, which aims to cover and completely bury the site, should be abandoned.

The President himself Valcárcel, during a meeting with members of the Platform on Friday January 15, assumed various commitments which included just those three aspects.

In fact, the President Valcárcel made a call to Mayor House, in the presence of the Civic Platform, which informed him that he should stop burying the draft, which had begun processing the city of Murcia.

The Civic Platform shows greatly surprised and concerned that, despite the aforementioned telephone conversation between President and Mayor, the City of Murcia has approved this Wednesday Jan. 20, granting the drafting Villegas Construction Project reservoir Burial .

Given the continued manipulation, lack of coordination and absurdities of the various authorities concerned so far, the Civic Platform informed of its intention to continue its relentless protests and monitoring, as their demands are not met, beginning with the following:

The archaeological excavation should be continued immediately.

The scientific management of the archaeological excavation archaeologists must assume Alfonso Robles and José Sánchez Pravia.

These scientific directors should be part of any commission of experts that have created so far or are created in the future in relation to this site.

It should be immediately canceled the project of burial which has been drawn to the company awarded Villegas Building on Wednesday 20 January.

The Civic Platform believes that it can re-enter the site none of the people who actively participated in the dismantling of one of the walls on the 9th of December, and those that were identified by the SEPRONA "in situ" and "red-handed" while removing the wall brick by brick.
