PSOE: "The collection embodies PP municipal traffic offense as an easy source of income, essential and consolidated" (19/01/2010)

PSOE Councilman Alfonso Navarro claims that the City of Murcia has planned to raise in 2010 for the concept of traffic fines the amount of 5,800,000 euros, 34% more than in 2009 and 65% over 2007

The Socialist councilor Alfonso Navarro claims that the PP municipal traffic violations have become a prized collection target.

"The government team seems to conceive of traffic fines as a problem that must be eradicated, as an opportunity and an essential source of funding for municipal coffers."

Murciano, infringe, the City Council needs you

So much so, "says Navarro, the City of Murcia has planned to raise in 2010 for this purpose the amount of 5,800,000 euros, 34 percent more than in 2009 and 65 percent more than in 2007.

Since 2007, the sums deposited in the municipal budget as revenue from traffic violations have evolved into massive upward: in 2007 the amount was € 3,500,000, in 2008, 4 million euros in 2009 amounted to 4,300,000 € ; shooting in 2010 up to 5,800,000 euros.

"Murciano, violated!, The City Council needs you."

This may well be the slogan of the Consistory in the light of the upward revision for 2010 makes the collection route traffic fines.

Almost 27 euros for tourism

A projected revenue through this concept, as the mayor of the PSOE, will average of 26.7 euros for tourism of the census of the municipality of Murcia vehicles amounting to 216,910 cars.

Rising income

Navarro stresses that the amount budgeted for the current year as revenue from fines for traffic (5.8 million euros) makes this income is one of the most important among the 50 items for which the City gets revenue in the chapter on "rates , public fees and other income. "

Below this entry, continues the Socialist councilor, are among others the following concepts, for example, "certificates of habitability and licensing of first occupation (50,000 €)," open licenses "(2,000,000 €);" fees for private occupation of public domain goods, debris, materials "(1,000,000 €)," revenue actions, infrastructure development and works to pass "(€ 3,317,000), charges for parking of vehicles (150,000 €) , so a total of more than 45 concepts through income.

According to these data and taking into account the overall municipal budget, the mayor of the PSOE says that revenues for traffic violations are only surpassed by those from some direct taxes such as IBI (Property Tax); IVTM ( Tax Motor Vehicle) and IAE (Business Tax) and some indirect and ICIO (Tax on Building and Works), as well as fund for the provision of some services like garbage collection.

Neglects its primary duty

In Navarro's view, these figures show that the PP has established the fund municipal road traffic fines as a source of income "easy, essential and consolidated" in addition to going to the ease in collection, throwing in the towel and forgetting their primary obligation to correct the upward trend in traffic violations.
