Lola Sánchez in Mexico shows the measurements carried out in Youth to bring information to people with sensory disabilities (15/01/2010)

The Councillor for Youth and Employment of the City of Murcia, María Dolores Sánchez, Mexico stated in the measures undertaken in the Youth Department of the Municipality of Murcia to bring information to people with sensory disabilities, especially blind and deaf.

The mayor has opened in Mexico City on the project evaluation workshop and Active Citizenship Information: Working Together, financed by the European Union.

The Mexico meeting is the third and last in a series of working meetings have taken place in Murcia (February 2009) and Ecuador (June 2009).

Next to the City Council at the opening, was the Secretary of Education and the Secretary of Participation of the Government of Mexico City.

And representatives of the European Union Delegation in Mexico and the Spanish Cooperation Agency AECI of Spain.

In this seminar, which has aroused great interest in the city of Mexico, also participating organizations and ONCE FESORMU Murcia Region.

40 people attending from organizations of deaf and blind from Murcia (Spain), Brussels (Belgium), Torino and Vicenza (Italy), Paris (France), Mexico City (Mexico), San Isidro (Argentina), Cali (Colombia) and Cuenca (Ecuador).

In addition, members of Youth Services of the participating municipalities and CIDJ Youth Information Network, France and Red Chameleon, Colombia.

The purpose of this meeting is to evaluate interventions that all participating agencies have made to adapt their services to youth information for young people with sensory disabilities.

The conclusions developed from this workshop would not only apply in the city of Murcia but still in all participating countries.

Sanchez explained that the City has developed measures to improve the accessibility of websites (the website of Informajoven already translated into sign language and partially sighted people), provide specific information content for these groups, adapting facilities and propose actions for young people to be directly involved in the information centers (creation of information points, specific training for youth and young technicians, etc).
