Councilwoman Maria Dolores Sánchez Mexico participates in closing the seminar that this initiative

The Department of Youth and Employment of the council, the Federation of Deaf People in the Region of Murcia (FESORMU) and Murcia ONCE Mexico participating in the seminar 'Working together' in order to tailor information to young people with sensory disabilities .

This project, coordinated by the Department of Youth and Employment Murcia City Council in collaboration with the City of Mexico, and funded by the European Commission has set the key for youth information centers eliminate information barriers and young people disabilities, especially hearing and vision, can seamlessly access the information they are offering.

The project has established guidelines to improve accessibility to websites, establish specific information content for this group, the facilities and proposed projects for young people to be directly involved in the information centers (creation of points of information, specific technical training youth and young people, etc).

The Mexico meeting is the third and last in a series of working meetings have taken place in Murcia (February 2009), Ecuador (June 2009) and now in Mexico, within the project 'Information and active citizenship: a strategy for inclusion of people with fewer opportunities'.

This initiative involves 56 young representatives of 8 youth organizations with sensory disabilities (blind and deaf) from Murcia (Spain), Brussels (Belgium), Torino and Vicenza (Italy), Paris (France), Mexico City (Mexico) San Isidro (Argentina), Cali (Colombia) and Cuenca (Ecuador).

In addition, Youth Services of the participating municipalities and CIDJ Youth Information Network, France and Red Chameleon, Colombia.

The purpose of this meeting is to evaluate interventions that all participating agencies have made to adapt their services to youth information for young people with sensory disabilities, the involvement of youth groups in the Information Centres and youth services and the strengthening of their associations in their cities.

The seminar to be held in Mexico takes place from 14 to 17 January.

Participants will attend lectures, participate in working groups and round tables, and made a report with the findings of the project.

The conference will focus on disability and participation, information and disability, and disability and gender equality.

The Councillor for Youth and Employment, María Dolores Sánchez, participate in the inauguration of the seminar in an official ceremony to be held at the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico.

This seminar helps the Secretariat of Citizen Participation of the Federal District of Mexico and the Organization of Mexico IAP Visually Impaired.

The activities supported by the Spanish Agency for Development Cooperation, who has given the Cultural Centre of Spain, home of the days of evaluation.

Likewise, the seminar has the support of European Commission Delegation in Mexico, the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico, National Commission Persons with Disability of the Federal District Legislative Assembly and the Board of Private Assistance DF.

After the meeting in Mexico will develop a manual of methodology for implementation of Youth Information Services as a strategy for inclusion of young people with sensory disabilities.

The direct project beneficiaries are the young participants, technicians youth, youth workers and representatives of local youth.

The indirect beneficiaries are the local and regional organizations related to the fields of youth work, youth associations in the countries of the EU and third countries involved, and youth.

Measures carried out in Murcia

The Youth Council of the City of Murcia is a pioneer in implementing measures to adapt youth information services to persons with disabilities.

Among other things are done:

-Activities to promote the participation of youth with disabilities FESORMU and ONCE, and improve the relations of this group with the Youth Council.

"Awareness and training of youth service workers and Informajoven Hall.

-Accessibility for disabled youth services and Informajoven.

Accessibility of web-service Informajoven Youth and young people with sensory disabilities.

"Engaging young people with disabilities in the design of the accessibility of the Youth Council.

"Engaging young people with disabilities in news content.

"Involving young people in international projects, especially in the Youth in Action Programme of the EU.

"Youth participation in youth exchange project and the European Voluntary Service.

-Broadcasting, by FESORMU and ONCE, the activities undertaken by the Department of Youth and Employment and collaboration on them.

Also, young people from both entities have ongoing meetings with the technicians of the Department of Youth, European Projects and Informajoven Center.

At the meetings, young people and technicians of the Department have made efforts to improve and facilitate youth-serving with sensory disabilities.

Also been made with the technical sessions of Youth to know the treatment to be accorded to a person with sensory disabilities.

Young people with disabilities and FESORMU ONCE did a report on accessibility of Youth Service offices, facilities and Informajoven website, which has improved them.

It has improved the accessibility of the Web, putting all the titles on the main page in sign language.

This action is going to be developed gradually with the rest of the web pages of Informajoven.

Last summer, conducted a blind youth exchange in Romania.

Attended by 6 young blind Murcia.

Also, within the European Voluntary Service, is a young ONCE developing a project in Mexico City in organizing IAP Visually Impaired, on the theme "Disability and Gender Equality ', with a duration of one year.

It is also planning a European volunteer project of a young visually impaired in Brussels and host in Murcia, in the Department of Youth, a young Belgian with similar disabilities.
