The CHS is launching a pioneering project to ensure the withdrawal of reeds in the Reguerón (15/11/2009)

The president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura (CHS), José Salvador Fuentes Zorita, visited the works included in the R + D + i for optimizing and disposal systems in the control of cane Reguerón, which aims to improve restore the ecological and drainage capacity of this channel at its mouth the river Segura in Murcia.

The works, which have a budget of 643,500 euros, will lead to environmental improvements and significant cost savings in cleaning up public waterways, which are the two main objectives pursued by the CHS.

This project is being undertaken jointly in the Segura River, in sections located in Cieza (Vega Alta), and Guardamar (at the mouth) and the Reguerón in Murcia.

In the case of Reguerón where CHS operates on a stretch of 4,350 meters long, divided into 45 sectors which underwent different procedures in each of them seeks to improve the environmental quality of the channel, while optimizing systems Removal of invasive vegetation (reeds and reed), so that the conclusions are applicable to other avenues of escape (wadi is the stretch of river mouth) and thus, economic investment for this type of maintenance work will get reduced.

The primary objective of the plan, which runs through CHS Tragsa society, is to gradually replace the landscape of the riverside reeds and rushes, and other native species that occupy this space.

The study will be coordinated by researchers from the Universities of Murcia and Alicante under the supervision of the Commissioner's Water CHS.

The work, which will be held for 4 months, is a pioneer in Spain and will be exported to other watersheds upon completion.

The research has a total budget of 3 million euros from the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, and the choice of venues is that experience which is intended to give differences in water quality and the type of soil.

Remember that the CHS conducted for several years a program of cleaning the public waterways Segura basin, which takes place on a permanent basis and has an investment of several million euros, which, if These studies conclude successfully, it will cheapen the cost of maintenance actions in rivers and streams.
