García de Cortázar: "In Spain what is unpredictable is not the future is the past" (13/11/2009)

Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Deusto, and National History Prize 2008, Fernando García de Cortázar, stressed that "in Spain what is unpredictable is not the future is the past" in connection with what has been called falsification of the history of Spain.

The historian has made these statements at the conference `Counterfeiting historical and linguistic aberrations' that has given this morning at the UCAM, which is framed in the informative program of the Chair in Ethics, Politics and Humanities of the University, in collaboration with FAES Foundation and headed by former Prime Minister, José María Aznar.

Garcia de Cortazar has been very critical issues such as historical memory law which says that "is used to break the unity of the Spanish."

He has also stated that it is surprising that in Spain "to avoid identifying and Spanish and do it for the Autonomous Community to proceed," and added that this is due to the falsification of history that has developed in Spain. "

As for what he described as "horror Basque", in reference to nationalism in this country, the speaker stressed that "the Basque Country is one of the Spanish regions unless you own identity."

On the other hand, also related to the Basque country, has emphasized the fact that Castilian was discussed earlier in Vitoria in Madrid.

In addition, said the fact that "only about 10% of its population as the Basque language."

Another issue that has harshly criticized the professor, is the concept of Linguistic Normalization, which stressed that "it is a relentless cultural planning process that attempts to shape a reality."

With regard to Catalonia, the historian has described as outrageous the Catalan language compulsory in the universities of this region.

On the other hand, has emphasized that one could say that "too many languages, the world would probably be better without so many languages."
