The Region will host the first meeting of the Public Transport Authorities in Spain (24/10/2009)

One of the goals is to advance the establishment of a national body composed of all the country's transport authorities

The regional government through the Public Transport Authority of the Region of Murcia, will coordinate the first meeting of the Public Transport Authority of Spain, which will take place Nov. 10 in Murcia, coinciding with the celebration of the Twentieth Week Coach and Bus.

The Public Transport Authority of the Region of Murcia, a body under the Ministry of Public Works and Planning, is the authority responsible for organizing the first workshop, the result of the agreement reached earlier this month in the Ministry of Development the heads of the consortia and transport authorities in Spain.

One of the main objectives of the meeting is to advance the establishment of a body which brings together all the authorities, consortia and public transportation entities in the country, which will create a specialized forum.

This forum, national, coordinated transport policies and help to foster the use of public transport through the analysis of major social demands for mobility, with the aim of improving the management of mobility and quality of services.

The managing director of the Public Transport Authority, Jose Guillen, said that "the constitution of this body will mark a turning point in terms of institutional collaboration that will streamline planning and actions aimed at improving and promoting public transport in Spain ".

The autonomous body responsible said: "The trend in recent years has resulted in the passenger transport powers are transferred to a lesser or greater extent to consortia and transport authorities.

Therefore, it is necessary to share and set positions on many issues we share, to advance the functional improvement of Spanish transport system, the economic and financial coordination and fare integration. "

During the working day will be discussed among other issues the model EMTA (European Metropolitan Transport Authorities), the Europe-wide association that brings together 33 public transport authorities in major metropolitan areas and plays a key role in sustainable development networks of public transport services in cities and associated urban areas.

Jose Guillen emphasized that "from the different administrations have a responsibility to plan and lay the foundations for a modern public transport, economic, efficient and reliable.

Therefore, it is necessary to establish new systems of collaboration that contribute to the structuring of an intermodal public transport network that promotes sustainable mobility and allow to solve the problems of traffic congestion in the Spanish cities. "
