Murcia Science Park opens its doors to position itself as the great technology platform promotion and development of R + D + i in the Region (22/10/2009)

The regional president stressed that "provides the scientific and business community a powerful tool to advance and improve our competitiveness"

In this first phase, the park has 65 workers and is home to eight companies that use high technology to develop its most ambitious and innovative projects

The president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today inaugurated the first phase of Murcia Science Park, said, "has become the largest logistics platform for the promotion and development of R + D + i in the Region de Murcia, and that "makes us a meeting point for businesses, researchers and scientists from around the world."

Valcárcel, accompanied by the Minister for Universities and Research Company, Salvador Marin, Minister of Economy and Finance, Inmaculada García, and HP Spain SL President, Jose Antonio de Paz, toured the supercomputing center facilities, which are located in the complex Espinardo Murcia and will be expanded with three more buildings.

The park in which they work and eight companies in Murcia, houses the Computer Center Ben Arabi, with the fourth computer for scientific calculation and art business more important in Spain, the Community offers to universities, researchers and companies in the region as a development tool for R + D + i.

To this end, the Science Park signed with the universities in the region for use conventions Supercomputing Center, as well as innovative companies from different sectors and high technology.

The head of Murcia said that "this scientific and technological platform we provide our scientific and business community a powerful tool to advance and improve our competitiveness in the knowledge society."

Investment in the building and the center was 6.5 million euros, and the supercomputer Ben Arabi began to use important national and international projects in areas such as aided engineering, bioinformatics, geology, digital content defense, electronic design or the environment, among others.

In addition, the Computing Centre has become Ben Arabi, Valcarcel said, "in a technological key to the future of the region and brings us a focal point of national and international research and innovation, as there are only three other computers in Spain with similar features and power to apply to research and engineering. "

This powerful software tool is a "living organism", which allows scientists to address new challenges "to attract businesses that need this technology to develop their projects," said President of Murcia.

Computing Center Ben Arabi will also allow companies and research groups to work remotely from their offices and departments, as it has a compute capacity of 10.6 teraflops-ten trillion operations per second and has 944 end processors.

Companies located in the Science Park

The first companies that have headquarters in the Science Park are Age2 Business Data Center; neotechnic Development, Integral Systems Desalination; Aquaporins and Ingredients, Composites and Sun; Molecularanova; centic, and Thader Biotecnologic.

Other companies have applied to use the new facilities of the Science Park for the coming years.

In total, there are 65 people working on the premises of the first building of the Science Park.
