Vote for the City of Murcia to the Virgen del Rosario (07/10/2009)

At your feet, Holy Virgin of Rosario, now bows Murcia and on behalf of the Municipal Corporation, to make grateful remembrance of your great kindness to generations of Murcia.

Huerta Murcia and speak of the centuries-old devotion to the Rosary of the Virgin.

Just remember with emotion the song ancestral auroros bells calling the Marian prayer.

Without doubt, the work of the Dominicans in the field of culture and popular religiosity has left a pleasant impression on the memory of our City.

And they have learned that we are called to join the thousands, millions of people who share the faith and hope in a better, more caring, more humane and just, in the reign of peace and love around prayer and the Holy Rosary.

Come this day, Holy Mother, to honor you as my predecessor did in 1597, Mayor Francisco Mingrano, who this year celebrated the patron of Murcia, the Virgin of the Rosary and the battle of Lepanto.

As Mayor, I am proud to keep this venerable tradition that wanted to be instituted in perpetuity.

This is just one of the hallmarks of this city whose historical memory demands to be appreciated and put to use.

Once the votes were erected by episodes of epidemics and plagues, so did earthquakes and drought, in which ordinary way the city of Murcia confidently resorted to the mediation of the Virgin of the Rosary, imploring her sometimes comfort, protection other and always a blessing.

Today we are not free of those tragedies and some of them, like bigotry, selfishness or materialism or drought, lack of water which gives secular hope, life and prosperity, we are even more concerned today than in years gone by.

While in the world catastrophes and tragedies occur, while in Murcia city suffers some weighed down by grief or crushed by despair, while someone struggles to preserve and disseminate our beliefs and identity, we are obligated to renew this vote with hope and joy.

For three centuries long years after its founding, far from being an outdated custom, shines again recovered by the passion these brothers of the Confraternity of the Rosary place as arranged.

Solemn Vow This function is not an escape from the problems of our city, quite the contrary, encourages us to see them with responsible and generous, and gives us, as it did in 1677 - the strength to face with God's help and the firm intention to work tirelessly for the good and progress of all citizens.

How many times the Holy Rosary has been a privileged instrument to avoid danger and war, has been invoked to plead with Jesus Christ through His Blessed Mother, reconciliation and peace.

How often Benedict XVI and the popes who preceded him, as recalled John Paul II invited us to bring the hope of victory over evil in God by praying the Rosary.

Hail Mary, Glorious and Blessed Virgin of the Rosary, the mysteries Our Mother Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious, from your throne of mercy hear the appeal that I make today on behalf of Murcia, our young people, to grow in the dignity, solidarity and Christian values and morals of a society more just and tolerant of our elders, that the stage of life they treasure the experience, find the love, care and affection of those who surround them ; of Murcia families who defend freedom, strengthen its ties and strengthen ties, of all who are fortunate to live in this land Marian, to reaffirm our commitment to others.

Serves good Mother, Our Lady of the Rosary, the needs of your children most disadvantaged and returns to our city thine eyes of mercy, bless our families, interceding for those who left us way to Gloria and protect us from evil.

Amen.
