The mode of transmission of AIDS among immigrants is through heterosexual contact, according to a doctoral thesis (17/08/2009)

The pathway is prevalent in heterosexual transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) among the immigrant population, according to one of the conclusions of the doctoral thesis by Jesús Méndez Vera at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Murcia.

The study, which was conducted on native and immigrant populations in the health area of allowed to know that sexual transmission between the first rose to 70.5 percent, while the second was the spread of a majority of drug users, with 54.7 percent.

The immigrant population diagnosed with AIDS had a higher proportion of women in the native, being respectively 38 percent and 25 percent.

Age is also a differentiating factor, reaching an average of 31 years for foreigners and natives 37 years.

As the frequency of deaths due to this disease, the rate was not very different in both populations, being 33.3 percent for immigrants and 31.2 percent in the other group studied.

This thesis was conducted by Professor Alfredo Cano Sánchez and Antonio Javier Trujillo Santos.
