The Catholic University of Murcia works, for five years in development cooperation activities in Peru (24/07/2009)

Antonio Alcaraz, head of the International Institute of Charity and Volunteer John Paul II:

"We believe that volunteer work should not be based on taking the food dish for a few days, but to teach them to make that plate of food to survive and give hope for life," says the director of the International Institute of Charity and Volunteer John Paul II, and vice-rector of University Extension of the UCAM, Antonio Alcaraz.

With these words, Alcaraz refers to the work of volunteers in development cooperation projects like that for five years, making the district UCAM Pachacútec (Peru), in its activities of the Summer University .

A total of 20 volunteers, including teachers and students of the UCAM, have departed for Pachacutec (Peru) this afternoon, where they remain until Aug. 21 in the 'field work in Peru 2009. "

This action aims to develop health education workshops, reading and writing, communication and new technologies, construction, catechesis and Christian growth, logistics, administration, and

leisure and sport.

The activities are conducted through the Center for the Study of Pachacutec, an initiative of the Diocese of Callao (Peru), and with the collaboration of the UCAM.

Notably, new for this year's celebration on 11 August in Lima, Extension of the VIII International Conference on Charities and Volunteers, held in Murcia and Madrid during the months of February and March, and were chaired by Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes, president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum.

The event's main objective is to make a reflection on charity and volunteer work, start with the intervention of Archbishop Javier del Río Alba, Metropolitan Archbishop of Arequipa and Chairman of the Delegation of the Institute of Charity and Volunteer John Paul II in Peru.

For his part, Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani Thorne, archbishop of Lima and Primate of Peru, will give a conference entitled "Charity and Volunteering in the light of the Encyclical" Caritas in veritate '.

Similarly, Antonio Alcaraz, will speak on the experience of volunteering at Catholic universities.

Among the events scheduled will be given the award 'Charity in the Truth' a person or institution distinguished by its social and charitable work in Peru and university certificates are awarded to students participating in the Master of Social Development Catholic University.

In conclusion, Bishop Miguel Irizar Campos intervene, Bishop of Callao and president of Caritas Peru.
