"The PP should temporarily halt the transfer of land to the foundation O'Belen until the results of investigations instituted by the prosecution" (20/02/2009)

The socialist mayor María Dolores Abellon propose in Parliament next Thursday to suspend the municipal government's record sale of municipal land and 5,841 m2 of the Partial Plan New Condomina to that foundation, investigated by the prosecutor, following a complaint lodged by the Ombudsman for alleged irregularities in the management of child protection centers

O'Belen International Foundation, established in June 1999 as a charitable foundation of care, has been questioned by the report submitted by the Ombudsman following complaints about the actions carried out in selected centers with child protection behavioral disorders and socially disadvantaged.

This report on 56 such centers, reports the PSOE mayor María Dolores Abellon has sparked social unrest, and it highlights, very special, the more negative aspects in those centers run by the Foundation O'Belen that has 5 of them in Spain, located in Guadalajara, Cuenca, Castellón, Tenerife and Madrid.

Governing Agreement: transfer of 5,815 m2

The intention of this Foundation is to establish the odd center of this kind in other Spanish cities, including Murcia.

To this end, the City of Murcia, by agreement of the Governing Board on 3 September, decided to start the file transfer of a leasehold plot of 5,815 m2, located in New Condomina Partial Plan, intended to construction of a hospital care of children and adolescents to be managed by the Foundation.

Motion

That is why the socialist mayor will, by a motion on the floor of the PP next Thursday, to halt such transfer temporarily while awaiting the results of investigations instituted by the prosecution.

Also, Abellán propose to PP in La Glorieta regional urge the Government to enable and improve the protocols, the criteria for accreditation of schools, professional training and supervision of sheltered housing as part of the child protection system disorders of behavior and socially disadvantaged in the Region of Murcia.

Finally, the PSOE Councillor asked to popular regional urge the Government to establish a Commission of Control and Seguimientoformada political representatives of all parties, technical, professional and social groups working in child protection, for monitoring and evaluation of the child protection system with behavioral and socially disadvantaged, both in public and private, such as sheltered housing dependent on CARM and managed by foundations and other groups.
