An exhibition reveals the secrets of the tram (15/09/2008)

The exhibition 'History of the tram' opens the way for the various activities organized to mark the Week of Mobility.

The show, which can be accessed at the Municipal Center Castilla doors, pick up a half of panels that explain the past and future of the tramway system in Spain and the municipality as well as the advantages to installing this through transport.

Thus, in the exhibition can see the different steps in Murcia, since 1893, to install the tram which will in the coming years until 2011, when it starts to work on Line 1 in full.

The panels gather images of former and current Murcia tram and installed in cities like Barcelona and Bordeaux, 1898, newspaper clippings and pictures of how virtual reality will be the main means of Murcia, where operating Line 1.

The exhibition reproduces the benefits of installing the tram system, defining it as the best bet for sustainable mobility.

Thus, the tram is the fastest urban transport distances of less than seven kilometers, is timely, is the most secure, high capacity, accessible and comfortable.

Also, this transport does not emit CO2, is the means of transport that consumes less energy, the lowest level of noise and low vibration level.

The exhibition also outlines the route of the tramway network in the municipality.

This recalls to invest over EUR 200 million in its facility, which line a measured 16 miles and expected to be ready in March 2011.

Regarding employment, the creation of Line 1 will employ 600 people and is expected to carry daily in 2025 to 42,000 passengers.
