Murcia concludes its noise map with the second phase of the project (03/09/2008)

Murcia will complete your noise map with the development of the second phase of this study, which includes updating the maps of 16 districts and for achieving the other 38.

This chapter includes the establishment of a sound zoning in areas of study, analysis of compliance with quality objectives and limits set by the Municipal Environmental Protection.

Murcia and has a valuable tool for environmental management as a basis for raising or prevention actions in the fight against noise pollution, as is the noise map.

The Environmental Protection Service has been conducting since 1995 to continuously measure noise levels during day and night periods in the town streets

of Murcia, to know the levels of noise to which the population is subject, according to the protocol as set out in Decree 48/1998 on regional environmental protection against noise, having 569 steps and 331 days in a period in time night.

The City Council has made the strategic noise map of the most densely populated area of the municipality, the urban center of the city of Murcia, as due to the amplitude of the municipality and the complexity of the studies and calculations to make, has been needs to be addressed in phases.

The results show that the municipality, from the acoustic point of view, follows the trend of other European cities of the same features as the main cause of noise source and the levels.

As befits a city with a significant development of services and shops, mainly due to being capital of the region and the most populous municipality, the traffic is our main source of noise pollution.

It is therefore in ways that support the highest density of vehicles where there are higher levels of noise.

During the day, the limit set by the regulations for residential areas is 65 dB (A).

A street level facade which have higher levels (above 75 dB (A)) are low if compared with the total of the village road.

Here are some specific sections of the West Ring Road, and the Gran Vía

Most of the village, which corresponds to the largest extent of the study area is located at noise levels below 65 dB (A), thus complying with the provisions of the legislation.

As the night time, noise levels suffered a significant decline as a result of reduced traffic

this period.

The limit fixed by law is 55 dB (A).
