About 300 children have improved in their studies through the work of volunteer university (21/05/2008)

About 300 children of the town have improved at school thanks to the work of 88 young university volunteers who have participated in the Promotion of Volunteering with Children's University, which conducts the City of Murcia and University of Murcia.

Councillor for Health and Social Services, Fulgencio Cervantes, and the Vice Chancellor of University Extension, Guillermo Díaz, have delivered this afternoon, university diplomas to 88 who participated in the program.

The objective of this initiative, which has been held for nine years, is to improve knowledge of children to perform better in school and at the same time convey values.

In total, this project involved 288 children and 88 university volunteers in 33 neighborhoods and districts of the municipality.

The project Promotion of Volunteering University is divided into two sections, Strengthening School and Social Skills for Social Integration and students of that School.

The School Reinforcement Project 37 volunteers have participated in districts that have responded to 62 schools under 29, and 40 volunteers in the town who have attended 55 schools under 19.

Of the 117 children treated in this project, 41 are immigrants, representing 35%.

48 schools have participated from 19 districts and 29 villages.

The draft Social Skills IES (Secondary) 4 volunteers participated in the Monte Miravete (Torreagüera) who have served 78 students.

7 volunteers have also worked in the IES Rector Francisco Sabater (Cabezo de Torres), according to 93 students.

In total, have used a total of 4,196 hours in educational institutions: The Arboleja, San Anton, San Andrés, Santa María de Gracia, Vistalegre, La Fama, La Paz, Infante, El Carmen, James the Great, St. Pius X Barriomar, The Esparragal, Cabeza de Torres, Churra, Zarandona, Javalí Nuevo, La Ñora, Nonduermas, Espinardo, the strut, Bacons Bridge, Casillas, Beniaján, Los Dolores, Torreagüera, Stables, Sangonera la Seca, Santo Angelo, Aljucer, The Palmar, La Alberca and Patiño.
