The Campus Mare Nostrum of the UMU and UPCT renews the Seal of Excellence (12/02/2016)

The renewal of the seal of excellence and quality at International Campus Mare Nostrum, of the two public universities in the region, has been held today in a ceremony presided over by President of the Community, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, at the Palacio de San Esteban.

The event, which brought together a large representation of society has benefited from the presence of the rectors of the universities of Murcia (UMU) and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), José Orihuela and Jose Antonio Franco, respectively.

The rector of the UPCT, José Antonio Franco, stressed that maintenance was the seal, after a period of evaluation carried out by an international agency experts because CMN "project is a region that contributes to greater excellence and internationalization the regional university system. "

Jose Antonio Franco thanked all those involved research centers, public administrations, international organizations, technological parks, and business-to have "relied on two regional public universities to lead this process of aggregation".

In his speech, the rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela, who had words of praise for Jose Antonio Cobacho exrector and former coordinator CMN Juan Maria Vazquez, said that this project has become a focus since 2010 educational, research and social excellence in its three areas of reference: the agro-food based bio-economy, quality of life and health technologies and the Mediterranean sea and naval and sea technologies.

The rector Orihuela said that the rating agency, to renew the seal of excellence, praised the actions taken to implement new degrees and interuniversity degrees, increase the mobility of students, teachers and administrative staff and services, expand the range of subjects bilingual or modernize infrastructure;

"Issues that continue to work in the coming years to improve the quality of life and well-being in the region", he stated.

For its part, the regional president, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, said that CMN is "a cultural educational reference, scientific, research and the Mediterranean" thanks to a "union of effort, enthusiasm and talent" and proof that public universities in the region "are a good example of what society demands."

Sanchez said that in today's event the Government's commitment to both the Campus of International Excellence Mare Nostrum, as the University of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena is also renewed.
