The Councillor for Sports and Health, the City of Murcia, Felipe Coello, the Minister of Culture and Spokesperson, Noelia Arroyo, and the CEO of the Tour of Murcia, Francisco Guzman, presented this morning XXXVI Tour Murcia.

The Tour of Murcia will be held on Saturday February 13 and will feature the participation of 19 teams and a total of 133 runners.

The race will be held under the patronage of the Municipality of Murcia, the regional government and other institutions and companies like BMN-Cajamurcia and Estrella de Levante.

Participants will travel a total of 199.3 kilometers from San Javier to Murcia, with sections that present, as usual, major mountain difficulties ascendiéndose high of Aledo, Collado Bermejo and Cresta del Gallo.

The start will take place at 10:45 am on the esplanade Barnuevo of Santiago de la Ribera and from there, the members of the different teams will be heading to San Javier, where will the rolling start.

Travel

Participants cyclists made a small circuit by the municipality of Murcia, which will pass the Mirador, San Cayetano and Pozo Aledo, before arriving again at San Javier (first intermediate sprint).

They then pass through the field of Cartagena to find Sierra Espuña, where for Totana, will go first and Aledo High Collado Bermejo, top Marco Pantani.

After the descent to Alhama will continue towards Murcia, entering the capital El Palmar to Algezares and Los Garres where, by the way San Jose, will begin the ascent of the cyclists of different teams to the Cresta del Gallo.

After a descent to the Sanctuary of La Fuensanta and Algezares, runners will enter the town of Murcia in the Barrio del Progreso, towards Ronda Sur, Infante Juan Manuel, Calle Princesa, Alameda de Colón Plaza Camachos, Puente de los Peligros Plaza Martínez Tornel and Gran Vía, where it will end the XXXVI Tour of Murcia at approximately 16:00 hours.

Confirmed riders are Murcia Alejandro Valverde, José Joaquín Rojas and Ruben Fernandez, in the Movistar equipment;

Luis Leon in Astana;

Eloy Teruel, in Louetano (Portugal) and Miguel Angel Ballesteros, Ruben Montoya and Antonio Jesus Soto, with sub 23. Selection To them other leading cyclists Samuel Sanchez, Philippe Gilbert and Van Garderen will join the BMC team;

Sylvain Chavanel, with Direct Energie;

Dani Navarro and Maté, in Cofidis, and Ilnuer Zakarin in Katusha.

For the first time in the history of the Tour of Murcia, will participate a Brazilian team (Funvic) and Japanese (Matrix), the latter with extensive impact on their country and that will be followed by a specialized cycling Japanese television.

Of the 19 teams, four belong to the category Word Tour: Movistar, Astana, Katusha and BMC.

Ten are from the Professional Continental (Cofidis, Direct Energie, CCC Sprandi, Bora Argon, Caja Rural, Topsport Gazprom Roompot, Verva and Funvic Active Jet) and four Continental (Matrix, Burgos BH, Louetano and Euskadi Basque Murcia ).

The list is completed with the Spanish Selection sub 23.
