The City Council joins the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (07/02/2016)

The Department of Administration Modernization, Urban Quality and Participation continues to work to convert to Murcia in a smart city.

For this, among other things, they join the Partnership for European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC), which is supported by the European Commission initiative that brings together in one forum for cities, industry, SMEs, banks, research and other actors in the intelligent city.

This platform aims to improve the quality of life of citizens, increasing the competitiveness of industry and innovative SMEs in Europe and make cities more competitive and better places to live.

It also seeks to share knowledge to prevent errors that are repeated in other cities, achieve common energy and climate goals and offer support in finding appropriate solutions and partners.

According to Councilman Modernization, José Guillén "the objective of the government team is to achieve social, environmental and economic sustainability of the municipality so we participate in all initiatives such as this that will help to achieve that Murcia is a smart city.

We want to continue and optimize the path initiated in order to characterize and complete the vision of what should be the city of Murcia in terms of smarter and more efficient buildings and how to make more sustainable mobility in the city as well as enhance and improve urban spaces, what we mean is facilitated by the use of new technologies. "

The EIP-SCC is formed by a high-level group whose platform is designed to promote synergies and facilitate the flow of information between all participants in the initiative, bringing together the cities, industry and citizens to improve urban life through integrated solutions more sustainable.

These solutions involve applied innovation, better planning, a more participatory approach, greater energy efficiency, better transport solutions, the intelligent use of information and communications technology (ICT), among other factors.

One of its objectives is to combine ICT with energy management and transportation to reach innovative solutions to major environmental, social and health challenges facing European cities today solutions.

The firm commitment to ICT and innovation relates to the need to find solutions scalable and transferable to contribute to the 20/20/20 climate action in the EU, which aims to reduce the high energy consumption, gas emissions greenhouse, poor air quality and road congestion.

The Association aims to overcome the bottlenecks that prevent the transformation of cities into smart cities by co-financing pilot projects and helping to boost existing initiatives and projects in the city.
