90% of truancy cases handled by returning to schools (01/02/2016)

The Municipal Commission seeks the prevention, monitoring and control of absenteeism and dropout met this morning with the purpose of studying the memory of cases handled by the municipal services last year.

This body, established in 2013, is formed by the Councillor for Education, Rafael Gomez, the mayor of Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, department heads of Social Services, Education, directors of the Municipal Department of Social Services, the Head of Child and Adolescent Social Services, and representatives of the Ministry of Education, schools, students and AMPAS.

The powers of the Commission, which meets every six months, is the emission reports, proposals and recommendations;

promoting the development of the Municipal Plan of prevention, monitoring and control of absenteeism and dropout, following up and monitoring their implementation;

prevention, monitoring and control of absenteeism and dropout in the municipality;

and classify, analyze and evaluate absenteeism and dropout, among other actions.

In total, during the course 2014-2015, the municipal social services of the City attended 83 cases of truancy under the Regional Plan Truancy, representing seven cases less than in the previous year.

Thus, 90% of these kids under 16 years returned to school thanks to the intervention of municipal services.

The City performs various actions in order to reduce truancy.

Thus, during the 2014-2015 school year have worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, two occupational classes for children with high rates of truancy, one located in Espinardo, mechanical, and another at the Center for Training and Initiatives Employment of El Palmar, from trades to work.

Espinardo classroom attached to the IES José Planes, during the course attended a total of 13 students and recorded an average attendance of 87.08% to some students the last quarter to 100% attendance, but if we percentages estimable is that students with high rates of school absenteeism in the previous year.

A total of 6 students were instructed to continue the following year in the classroom, other 6 were oriented computing and communications modules and 1 to auto mechanics.

Moreover other 4 have also made recent prescription in Basic Training Cooking and Restoration.

The classroom of El Palmar, attached to the IES El Palmar had 17 students enrolled, three of whom dropped out during the first quarter, one change of address and other two to be over 16 and have no motivation to continue and others 3 during the second quarter.

Of the students who continued 7 were enrolled in Basic Training and two other training modalities.

The draft tutoring, developed in collaboration with the University of Murcia, 190 minors were involved, while the three cyber-classrooms that comprise the Municipal Department of Social Services attended weekly to four groups of 15 children.

Similarly, in various neighborhoods and districts specific projects aimed at youth and adolescents develop, support the work of the vocational centers in some cases, or to support the continuation of schooling in others, shifting towards other training resources or integration labor to those who have left compulsory education without holder or who have decided to interrupt his training at age 16.

Projects Leisure develop in 34 neighborhoods and districts of the town, becoming summer schools during the month of July.

Its goal is to work during school hours education goals through play and recreational activity, transmitting positive values ​​on the rights of children and other cross-cutting issues such as education for peace, respect for the environment, etc.

Simultaneously other leisure activities and free time to various entities develop in our town and municipal complementing supported.

Thus, in neighborhoods like Los Rosales Holy Spirit or completeness performances are developed, addressing various aspects of childhood and social integration processes.

Furthermore, in order to ensure the support needed by children in their schooling process, the municipal service of social services awarded annually cafeteria aid totaling 250,000 euros to children who do not have the corresponding grant from the Ministry.

This amount has increased during 2014-2015 with another large number of scholarship students to the Grifols Foundation proposed municipal social services.

Promptly at other children who require school supplies or expense that requires joining extracurricular activities if positively assessed by the relevant social educator and not available own resources or of the same nature in the neighborhood or district is provided.
