ANSE located more than 2,200 trees in the project to restore the river corridor Murcia-Contraparada (24/02/2015)

The Councillor for Environment, Adela Martinez-Cache, met this morning with officials of the Southeastern Association of Naturalists (ANSE) to take stock of the activities carried out by the association in peri-urban river corridor Murcia and La Contraparada.

It is painstaking work, which has required an analysis of the different areas.

Has conducted an inventory of existing trees in the corridor, which found more than 2,200 trees (except palms), six native species and four traditionally grown.

The native tamarisk and white poplar, the most frequent.

The main results of the inventory are:

- Localization two ash trees in danger of extinction.

- There have been two saucos, a vulnerable species.

- Are also located 1,800 tree species of special concern.

- Located four unique trees by size).

- There have been over 1,500 tree plantations.

The collaboration between the city of Murcia, through the Department of Environment and ASEAN has been constant since after the study of plant species in the area, were taken to carry out the planting of selected species in nurseries municipal and nurseries in the Southeastern Association of Naturalists, among other nurseries.

In recovery efforts have been detected the presence of eels in the river, in fact, were rescued 16 who had been trapped in the network of canals.

They also discovered the presence of Calamón.

In the Region of Murcia this is a rather rare species, nesting in the Dam Eye (White), the first town of farming in the Community, as well as Rambla of mulberry (Mazarrón), Campotéjar (Molina de Segura) Rambla Albujón (Cartagena) and Lagunas de Alhama (Alhama de Murcia).

In the work has also been found Jewish cane Segura Basin.

A native plant that, unlike its 'raw' exotic common reed (Arundo donax), no aggressive growth in the form of dense masses that are rooted in the ground is and are very difficult to eradicate

For actions being carried out, the city of Murcia has provided local project staff and local media and technical resources, such as plant production in the municipal nursery, the involvement of environmental voluntary environmental program "Let pineapple" municipal shovel for conducting holes in which to perform the plantations and woodland transfer to planting sites and employment shovel chains in areas of difficult access .

With this production plant, the city of Murcia operated municipal nurseries, public areas with about 93,000 square meters of nurseries in the Mayayo, which have been put into operation by the partnerships: ANSE, braces and CEOM.

From the Department of Environmental you want to give special importance to such actions, not only by the importance of vegetation recovery posed to the green spaces of the municipality, but also by the collaborative work between the local administration and associations and groups in the municipality of Murcia as a way to allow foster and enhance their environmental performance.
