One year, the Institute of Secondary Education Bachelor Francisco Cascales, at the request of the coordinator of Health Education, has done his Week Health Education, which has focused on promoting healthy breakfast.

It is the fifth year that the IES is developing a series of activities to promote the consumption of healthy products.

Thus, with the aim of promoting breakfast, have conducted workshops healthy breakfast at 8 classrooms of 1st and 2nd of ESO, which are presented to students about foods that should make breakfast and conducted participatory dynamics for strengthen the basics.

This activity has been assessed by tutors with a score of 9.5 out of 10. Once the workshops, the Association of Parents of the center offers all students a breakfast that includes all recommended food groups consumed in the same classrooms.

Breakfast should be varied and plentiful (providing 25% of daily energy), which has been composed of milk, cereals (bread, olive oil and tomato) and various fruits, all products of the Mediterranean diet, dietary pattern that is being adopted in many countries around the world as the healthiest.

We have also carried out a contest of healthy menus made by students.

To complement these activities, all students from 3rd of ESO conducted a workshop in the Hall of Health and Sense of the Market Square Veronicas called "cooking without my parents" that enables them to cook healthy and appetizing recipes at once that simple and traditional.

There are currently not enough scientific evidence about the relationship between a proper breakfast and health.

Epidemiological studies demonstrate the negative health improperly breakfast, substantially increasing the risk of metabolic syndrome in adulthood, abdominal obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease consequences.

A healthy breakfast improves the quality of food, improves physical and mental performance and concentration ability, especially in adolescents.

It also helps maintain a healthy weight and control your appetite.

Full breakfast (3 groups: milk, cereal and fruit) four categories of quality of breakfast as the qualitative profile of food groups including compliance, regular quality (2 groups), insufficient (1 group) and poor quality (not including food of these groups).

Some of the results of IES students are:

- No breakfast 11.8% of students, being mainly girls and older, citing lack of time for almost half of them (48.3%).

The older a loss of habit breakfast and decreased intake of milk.

- Breakfast Quality: 6.9% carry a full breakfast, 28.1% Regular, 50.3% and 14.7% insufficient shoddy.

Only 7% consume fruit.

- Factors associated Breakfast: 46.1% use 10 minutes or more at breakfast (mean 8.7 min), 64.2% had breakfast alone with no family, 53.2% prepare their own breakfast.

- 90% reported consuming food at midmorning snack 79%, pastries and savory snacks fruit 5.9% or 9.4%;

the remaining 10% do not for lack of appetite.

- The 2.4% did not consume any food all morning.

- The rate of adherence to the Mediterranean diet (index Kidmed) classifies more than half of the students (53.3%) in a low or medium degree of adhesion.

A good quality breakfast is associated with spending more time, have breakfast together and not doing other things at the same time as watching TV or playing on screens.

Lack of time and company are seen as key factors in the quality of breakfast.

A high adherence to the Mediterranean diet is a good index predictor of making a good breakfast.

You can observe a tendency to improve the quality of breakfast and habits in students who have done workshops healthy breakfast the previous year.
