A total of 36 films from twelve countries competing for IBAFF awards for best feature film debut short (17/02/2015)

The International Film Festival of Murcia selected from among more than 400 films, a total of 36 films competing in the Official Selection of the 6th IBAFF.

The selected categories are 11 features, 8 and 17 debut films coming from 13 different countries among which are Spain (14), Brazil (4) Mexico (3), Portugal (3), France (3), Dominican Republic (2), Argentina (2) and work in the case of Colombia, the Philippines, Uruguay, Chile and Romania.

Among the 36 selected films are several titles awarded at international film festivals such as Locarno, Rotterdam and Cannes.

In the latter festival won the Critics Award Film 'Cockaigne' (2014, Argentina).

Directed by Lisandro Alonso and starring Viggo Mortensen, is one of the ten titles selected for the award for Best Feature Film in the Official Selection at this year's IBAFF.

'Cockaigne' will have to compete with 9 other films directed by internationally renowned filmmakers as 'Cavalo, I dinheiro' (2014, Portugal) Pedro Costa or 'From what is before' (2014, Philippines) of Lav Diaz.

In the category of raw Opera include titles like 'Un jeune poète' by Damien Manivel Public Special Mention in Locarno, 'Waiting for August' Teodora Ana Mihai-awarded at festivals such as Valdivia or Amsterdam and nominated for Awards European Film for best documentary style or 'You look like a wagon of those who did not stop nor oxen' Nelson Carlo de los Santos.

The Official Short Film Section has been selected the only title run by a director of the Region '6 Lola 6' Tomás Peña.

A jury of 9 members, among which critics, filmmakers and programmers from other international festivals, will be in charge of choosing within the Official Selection Best Feature Film (4,500 euros), Best Debut (3,000 euros) and better Short Film (1,500 euros).

The Festival organizers awarded the Honorary Award FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics), whose president, Klaus Eder, will collect the award and participate in talks scheduled cinema.

In this sixth edition was also granted traditional Audience Award and Young Award that will decide IBAFF students and high schools in the Region of Murcia.

Tickets for the projections of the Official Selection will cost 2 euros;

projections for the rest of entry is free to fill seats.

Movie lovers will delight in signature jewelry cinema life cycle within the FIPRESCI with titles like 'El Sol del Membrillo' (1992) by Victor Erice, 'Sacrifice' (1986) by Andrej Tarkovsky or 'Memories of Underdevelopment '(1968) by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea.

The IBAFF has also scheduled other sessions arthouse within the periphery Section or the Focus Section, dedicated this year to the Vanguards Caribbean and including The Pool (2012), a film by Cuban director Carlos Quintela-recent winner Festival Rotterdam 'The work of siglo'-.

This dedicated to Latin American film production cycle will feature prominent in other festivals such as development Memory Miguel Coyula, considered the best Cuban film of 2010 titles.

Training and teaching in the IBAFF

The training will be one of the strongest bets of this issue and with the aim of bringing together young directors from different countries organized a workshop led by the prestigious accomplishment Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Costa.

The workshop "Pedro Costa, references and creation devices" will be held from 4 to 6 March in Room B of the Regional Film and revolve around a new model of production and creating alternative based on a work style where the filmmaker regains his freedom from the current model of the film industry.

The director will begin their course from the screening of his film 'Cavalo, I dinheiro' (2014), by competing in this year's IBAFF for Best Feature and with which the filmmaker won the award for Best Director at the latest edition of the Festival Locarno (Switzerland).

The sixth edition of IBAFF include two dialogue sessions will be held on Saturday morning March 7 under the title "Canons, Imposturas and Cultural Drifts" and which represent an interesting debate between eight directors, critics and festival programmers nationwide and internationally.

In addition, the festival will host on Friday March 6 Presentation of the book "La Frontera China" Sylvie Pierre where criticism of the international journal Trafic suggests key "Seven Women" (1966), the last film in the career of US director John Ford.

The event will be held in Room B of the Regional Film and will be presented by the director of the Film Library of Catalonia, Esteve Riambau.

The closing ceremony of the festival, where different prizes will be awarded this year will take place on Sunday March 8 at the Teatro Circo de Murcia.

During the night, the Cuban singer Chucho Valdés give a concert at the same venue in the Black Jazz and programming, tickets will cost 20 euros at the box office of the Teatro Circo de Murcia.
