The Psychological First Aid Unit of Civil Protection serves 710 people in less than a year (07/02/2015)

Before the age of their first year in operation (it was launched in March 2014), Unit of Psychological First Aid and Civil Protection has established itself as a necessary tool in interventions in accidents, emergencies and disasters.

During this time, the team of psychologists has treated 510 people who have to add another 200 who received assistance in Cieza bus accident occurred last November.

In total they have performed in 170 cases

Of these 510 people, 63.5% were women.

As for age, people who have requested this service more were 16, 31 and 38, establishing the average 39.7 years.

The reason most widely demanded their assistance has been mainly due to anxiety attacks (43.5%), with a total of 74 assists, followed by traffic accidents (17.1%) and a total of 29 ads .

They also had to act to help deliver bad news, from falls, attempts, alcoholism, drug intoxication, domestic violence, suicide ...

The month with the highest number of assists psychologically September was the occasion of the September Fair, with a percentage of performance of 21.2% and a total of 36 assists, followed by November with a percentage of 13, 5% to a total of 23 assists.

65.3% of activations that were taken throughout 2014, was activation in conjunction with the ambulance of the health unit Civil Protection Murcia, with a total of 111 assists, followed by 20.6% which were conducted assists in proper preventive services of the Association of Volunteers with a total of 35 interventions.

The average time of arrival of the unit at the scene was 5 minutes.

As for slots in which have received the most number of activations in the months studied, include periods of 12-13 hours 18-19 hours from 13-14 hours.

Now in its organizational structure, the UPAP has eleven psychologists, twelve technicians five drivers, coordinated by three operational commands.

The main objectives of this team are:

- Provide emotional support care using specific techniques and communication skills both victims and survivors.

- Provide psychological support through emotional venting techniques.

- You Make psychological first aid on the spot because it is proven that people who have received psychological support immediately after a traumatic event show a better adaptation and coping ability, so it is concluded that psychological intervention in a Department of Emergency contributes to the mitigation of subsequent psychopathology.
