The University of Murcia transfers a shark pup Zoo Aquarium Madrid (31/10/2014)

The University of Murcia celebrates this Monday, March 3, the act of transfer of one of the offspring of white tip shark your Aquarium Madrid Zoo Aquarium.

The breeding is donated, Whitetip reef shark species, has a year to live and sister born later this August at the Aquarium of the educational institution.

The event will be held at 10:00 am at the Aquarium of the University, in the Old Artillery Barracks, and will be attended by the Vice Chancellor for Research, Juan Antonio García, and responsible for the Madrid Zoo, who announced that a plate of animal origin in the tank where it will be installed is displayed.

Sharks white tip reef are small (usually no longer than 1.6 m long) and easily recognizable by its slender body and short but broad head, as well as tubular appendages along the nostrils, the oval eyes with vertical pupils and the white tip of dorsal and caudal fins.

Rarely assault humans, although sometimes very close to swimmers for examination.

However, they can bite the harpoon fishermen to try to steal their catch.

This species of shark has been declared as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), because their number is decreasing with increasing unregulated fishing throughout its territory.
