Murcia opens an innovative application for smartphones

The Department of Traffic and Transportation has created 'Mutrans' which can now be downloaded for free on iOS and Android format, and allows the municipality to create routes from a source to a destination point.

The results are obtained in terms of travel time and environmental impact, and even combining transfers between different transports.

The consultations show the results for tram, bus and cycling and walking paths, allowing accurate options combining two of these modes.

The Department of Transportation intends thereby promote the use of urban public transport allowing for a much more rational urban mobility.

A second very useful feature is the query times-step real-time bus and tram stops in the public transport to the current position of the user of the phone.

The application includes other sections as a link to sign thirteen traffic control cameras, which are located on the main avenues of the city (Plaza de Castilla, Rotunda of the Watchtowers-Walk of Fame, Fuensanta Square, Ronda Sur - Avenida de los Dolores, Ronda Sur - Patiño, Plaza Circular - Primo de Rivera, The Fleet - Marist College, Homage to the Square poets, Martínez Tornel Square - Gran Vía, Bridge Hospital - Infante Juan Manuel variant of Sorrows - Miguel Indurain, Avenida Ciudad de Almería - Cross Round West).

These cameras have been installed in order to provide information to citizens and local media about the traffic situation in real time.

Notifications, news and corporate information from the Department of Traffic and Transportation is included.

The project has been an important task of coordination with companies operating urban transport in the city of Murcia.

For this purpose different tools designed to manage all data flow operators and coordinate with the created platform.

To this must be added the creation of a profile on social networking Mutrans with which it is intended to reach a larger percentage of people informing them of all new public transport in the town.

In addition, through the Twitter account (MutransMurcia) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/mutransmurcia), the Department of Traffic and Transportation raffle coupon for tram and bus 20 euros each for the next two weeks .

All this is complemented with the start next week, an information campaign through the marquees installed on public roads.

This action is part of the European project MOBISEC, 50% funded by the European Commission.

In MOBISEC project is also underway to improve road safety for cyclists in the town, by acting on critical issues such as roundabouts and installing closed cycle stand.
