The City Council and Caritas join forces in the fight against poverty (23/07/2014)

Almost five hundred children and immigrants are served under the collaboration agreement signed between the two entities, the budget for municipal coffers amounts to 225,000 euros.

Mayor this morning visited the new facilities of Caritas, where the distribution of food and care for immigrants, among other work is done.

The foreclosure prevention and the fight against poverty and social integration of people and disadvantaged social groups are the areas in which they work together the city of Murcia and Caritas Diocese of Cartagena, whose new facilities visited Espinardo this morning the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara.

Specifically, House has referred to the collaboration agreement in force for an amount of 225,000 euros, can tackle two projects:

- The "Welcome Centre and minor-CAYAM Care", in which a total of 52 children from 50 families, aged between 0 and 3 years, and 40 children between 4 and 12 years and serves their families.

Their activities ranging from promotion to support social tasks truancy prevention and improvement in the conditions of school integration.

- "Housing first and second shelter for immigrants in exceptional situation" that provides temporary housing to the municipality immigrants, mainly single parents with children and adults in charge men with special difficulties in access to housing.

The program provides a first humanitarian reception and care of basic necessities and the subsequent adoption of measures aimed at gradual social integration.

About 175 people in the reception area and some 200 families in primary care to cover their basic needs are met annually.

In addition, the City, through the Department of Social Welfare and Health, collaborates closely for the development of childhood Caixa Pro-combat child poverty, developing a project coordinated action in different neighborhoods and districts of the municipality.

As part of this collaboration, begun in 2007, is currently developing a pilot test of "networking" in Santa Maria de Gracia, also experience of Caritas and the city of Murcia, the Foundation is also involved CEPAIM and other social organizations.
