Women use video games for learning and leisure men, according to a doctoral thesis at the University of Murcia (30/04/2014)

Women use video games in a majority, with a didactic purpose or learning, while men do it as a means of leisure and entertainment, according to one of the conclusions of the doctoral thesis at the University of Murcia by Pedro Antonio Rodríguez Sánchez.

To carry out this research, the author, who has earned a rating of outstanding cum laude, analyzed a representative sample of students in degree courses imparting this educational institution.

The conclusions of the thesis also note that the variables that contribute significantly to explain the fact of being or not a gamer are gender, age and area of ​​knowledge in which the degree that the student is pursuing.

The personal computer is the most used for playing video games as well as being a favorite among the different media available device.

As for dedication, more than three quarters of respondents say they spend less than five hours a week gaming.

Indicates the study considered attractive aspects are highly rated by users, with some marked differences with respect to gender, since the university is more related to its use as a teaching resource.

Meanwhile, men are those who believe in the educational value greater proportion of video games for learning in educational levels, Primary and Secondary.

The dissertation, which was directed by Professors Francisca José Serrano Pastor and Maria Begoña Alfageme González, concluded that "a good assessment is seen by students as to the use of video games as a teaching resource, opening thus a motivating and innovative in the field of education "alternative.
