Akmar Nijhof, Thomas Huyghe, and Carol Brown Goldberg won the International Sculpture contest Murcia Future (18/01/2013)

The Dutch artist Akmar Nijhof, Belgian and American Thomas Huyghe Carol Brown Goldberg have been awarded the first, second and third prize in the International Sculpture Park Levante future organized by the Future Foundation Murcia and 253 artists have taken part of 42 different nationalities.

The international jury has selected the work of Eduardo Romaguera (Spain) as worthy of first mention of the jury, Hugo Orlandini (Cuba) with the second occurrence, and wanted to highlight with an honorable mention to the draft submitted by Javier Luis Ribera (Spain) .

In addition, we have selected a total of 49 works among all the projects, which will become part of the collection of the Future Foundation and Murcia to be displayed in an exhibition in Spain and the U.S.

The first prize was € 24,000, the second prize of € 10,000, € 5,000 the third and the first two second prizes each worth € 3,000.

Moreover, the three first prizes and first two runners-up will take place and will become part of the future of Levante Park.

Murcia Futuro Foundation (FMF) and the city of Murcia, in collaboration with the Foundation Gabarrón convened before summer 2012 this competition to select five unpublished and original sculptural proposals for the future location of the city park Murcia.

This groups or individual artists who have submitted to the contest have had to register, write a report explaining and send a demo of his work.

The piece presented could be about any topic, but has been taken into account in selecting those who have shown a special link with the history and culture of Murcia, from the historical perspective and from the concept and philosophy of art, design and environment that articulates the new park.

During this week met in Murcia a prestigious international jury, composed of Barañano Kosme (Director of the Department of Methodology of the History of Art and Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Arts in Altea at the University Miguel Hernández Elche), FCG (artist), Petra Joos (Director of the Department of Museum Activities Guggenheim Museum Bilbao), John Keenen (architect drafter Park Master Plan Levante Murcia), Terry Riley (Editor architect Master Plan Parque de Levante in Murcia) and Joel Shapiro (artist).

Participants have complete freedom to use for the design and execution of the sculptures, the techniques and materials they considered most suitable to your requirements expressive, provided they were resistant to the action of atmospheric agents to ensure durability of the works .

The sculptures will be exempt and because their destination is an open space, the jury took into account the proportional relationship of their actions with the environment.
