The University of Murcia and create SEMG Chair of Family Medicine and Healthy Attitudes (11/01/2013)

The University of Murcia has welcomed today the signing of the agreement for establishing the "UM-SEMG-Chair of Family Medicine HEEL and healthy attitudes," which was created to promote the teaching, research and dissemination knowledge in the field of health.

The new Chair of the University of Murcia has been created in collaboration with the Spanish Society of General Practitioners and Family (SEMG), the Foundation for Research and Training in that company and sponsorship Laboratories Heel Spain.

During the ceremony, which was held in the building of Convalescence, houses the Rectorate, Joaquín María García-are, dean of the Faculty of Medicine, which bound the Chair, said he hoped that this-that targets both students and academics, as any professional in the health field, "serve as useful to society to develop healthy habits."

The Chair aims to develop outreach activities and training of primary care professionals, as well as grade activities to teach students the skills of the family physician, and graduate.

José Manuel Cordero, Heel Laboratories CEO, Chair contributing to 60,000 euros over the next three years, has referred to the commitment of his company, whose scope "encompasses not only cure diseases, but also the establishment of lifestyles that prevent ".

For his part, President of the Foundation SEMG and Benjamin Abarca, explained that the agreement is continuation of an activity being undertaken by the Company since 2007, when he took the initiative to create chairs that approached Family Medicine at the University .

In this regard, the University of Murcia is the sixth in having a Family Medicine Chair of the SEMG, after the universities of Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza, Pompeu Fabra, Granada and Cádiz.

Benjamin Abarca has said that, in addition to enabling society between healthy living habits, the Chair is an opportunity to promote research and knowledge of a discipline exerted almost 45% of doctors, he added.

Finally, in their speaking turns, the rector, José Antonio Cobacho, and the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Relations and Health Sciences, Manuel Vidal, have thanked SEMG who have chosen the University of Murcia for Laboratories Heel Chair and Spain for funding the project.
