The biogas from waste generates electricity equivalent to the consumption of 100,000 streetlights (25/08/2012)

The sustainable management Treatment Center allows savings of 77,000 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

Extraction Plant Landfill Biogas from Murcia has served as a model for other installation in Spain and Europe.

The biogas extracted from waste treatment in Murcia last year allowed produce 18,631,893 Kw / hour energy equivalent to the consumption of approximately 100,000 streetlights.

It is another example of the sustainable management of municipal solid waste that takes place in Murcia, following the guidelines of the City, through the Department of Urban Cleaning and Waste Management, led by José Ros, and service concessionaire, Cespa.

Incorporating environmental criteria, in this case, with the production of biogas, has two immediate positive consequences: first, it stops emitting 77,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and, on the other hand, the City achieves energy use to Through this alternative energy.

Extraction Plant landfill biogas from Murcia was launched with a first engine installed in the MSW Treatment Center in 1999 and has served as a model for the creation of others in Spain and Europe.

Currently there are three engine running.

The facility allows the extraction of biogas generated in the landfill and converting it into electricity for the sufficiency of the treatment center, although most of the power-achieved over 14,000 Kw / h in 2011 - is used to supply the city by sending it to the mains.

This engineering work environment represents a necessary element for emission control, favoring and preventing disposal can generate methane gas pockets inside the landfill.

Through a sophisticated network of collection wells and pipes running down the center, driving the biogas to a primary control station where natural conditions and measures its energy wealth.

Subsequently combusted to set in motion the engines power generators.
