Almost 800 people will point to 4/40 (13/08/2012)

The program, promoted by the Department of Social Welfare and Health, proposing the establishment of groups to walk 4 days a week for 40 minutes.

The participants, mostly women, ensure that physical activity has provided an improvement in their quality of life.

There are currently 10 active groups, which perform their itineraries by the city as districts.

Participants include, among the objectives achieved, improved flexibility, the opportunity to meet people, weight loss, fun and stress reduction.

That physical activity is essential for maintaining and improving health is a fact beyond dispute.

Therefore, to encourage and promote moderate practice and regularly, the City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Welfare and Health, directed by Maria del Carmen Pelegrin, launched the program 4/40, which in these currently has 754 enrolled.

Under the slogan "Take the first step, watch your health", the plan proposes the formation of groups of adults who are called to walk briskly, four days a week for 40 minutes each time, routes designed in environment close to home.

This year 10 groups are active, which in the first six months of 2012 have made 225 sessions.

The profile of participants responding to an overwhelming majority of women -80% versus 20% of men over the age of 51, who participate in the activity on the recommendation of health professionals-75%, compared to 25 % who do so on their own initiative.

An obvious consequence that occurs between members of these groups is the improved quality of life: 85% say they found more agile, 73% found an improvement in mood, 61% confirmed that also has seen a improvement in personal relationships and 56% say they feel less aches and pains.

Improved flexibility, the opportunity to meet people, weight loss, fun and stress reduction are the objectives achieved the most outstanding participants.

Refer also to lower cholesterol levels, improved strength, reduced blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

According to the evaluation questionnaire answered by the users, 78% or more walks four times a week and only 22% do so in less than four occasions.

And 100% indicates that it is very or fairly satisfied.
