Murcia City Council reviews the Generational Coexistence program that is developed in collaboration with the University of Murcia since 1995 (26/04/2012)

The aim is to facilitate the largest company that living alone, are willing to share their home with a student during the academic year at home

The councilman of Social Welfare and Health, María del Carmen Pelegrin, participated in the conference this afternoon Intergenerational Solidarity, organized by the University of Murcia, in collaboration with the city of Murcia.

The sessions are part of the International Year of Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity.

In this regard, we note that the City of Murcia has been carrying out the program of coexistence of generations from the 1995-1996 school year, the fruit of the collaboration agreement between the City and the University of Murcia.

A program whose main objectives:

- Improving the welfare and quality of life of older people.

- Making the most continue to live in their familiar surroundings as long as possible and to feel useful to society

- Solidarity and intergenerational relationships in the group of elders and students through coexistence.

This program aims to facilitate company larger than those living alone, are willing to share their home with a student host it / her during the academic year at home, promoting the establishment of friendly relations and mutual aid.

Basically the service is that older people stay free in their home a / a college student and return this company offers primarily nocturnal and cooperation in different tasks: accompanying travel, purchase of medicines, administrative and other benefits that both agree .

To offset the increased expenditure on electricity, water, etc.

That may occur in the home, the City of Murcia granted financial aid of 60 euros a person more per month of stay of the student.

It is a program that is established in time, having started 183 retreats and established 156 since launch.

Participants maintain coexistence in a high percentage (85.24%) over the course indicating the appropriate recourse for those who choose to benefit from it.

Participants generate the resource tradeoffs voluntarily offer: accommodation in exchange for company and vice versa.

It is intended for those older residing in the municipality of Murcia, live alone, have housing in good hygienic and sanitary, with separate bedroom and pose no disease that affects the normal living.

As students must be enrolled in the State University of Murcia, Murcia domiciled but not resident, with difficult access to a home in Murcia and this disease that affects the normal living.
