The Smart Cities cited in Murcia (26/04/2012)

The network consisted of 19 Spanish cities, held its second meeting tomorrow in Murcia.

Murcia, who chairs the working group on energy, a proposal to contract the study to determine the design and implementation of Smart Cities.

The City of Murcia will host tomorrow the second game of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities, since its establishment in January.

Comprised of 19 cities (Barcelona, ​​Burgos, Cáceres, Castellón, A Coruña, Logroño, Huesca, Madrid, Malaga, Murcia, Palencia, Pamplona, ​​Salamanca, Santander, Segovia, Seville, Valencia, Valladolid and Vitoria-Gasteiz), is chaired by Mayor of Santander, Iñigo de la Serna.

One of the reasons that led to form the RECI was the interest of cities to exchange experiences and work together to develop a sustainable model and improve the quality of life of citizens.

It consists of five working groups:

- Energy, led by Murcia

- Social Innovation (A Coruña)

- Environment, infrastructure, building and sustainable urban design and livability (Vitoria)

- Urban Mobility (Burgos and Valladolid)

- Government, business and economy (Valencia).

At tomorrow's meeting, each working group will present a project that may be assumed by the other municipalities to advance a new model of city, which will be necessary to introduce new measures aimed at greater energy savings, sustainable mobility, eGovernment or safety, among others.

Murcia, responsible for the energy group, will present, among other things, the model for the recruitment of study to determine the design and implementation of the Smart Cities, funded by the Spanish Agency Association of Energy Management.

The Smart Cities reach various services provided by cities from the control and irrigation management in parks and gardens and street lighting to the management of maintenance brigades of urban infrastructure, among others.

It aims to provide better service and better cost savings and energy efficiency, improving sustainability and strategic planning of cities.

The Plenary Hall will host the meeting, scheduled to begin at 9.30 am and will last all morning.
