The University of Murcia, Lorca raise funds for a solidarity conference (17/04/2012)

The Faculty of Communication and Information Studies, University of Murcia has organized a Solidarity Congress Crisis Communication Lorca, to be held on April 27 with the participation of specialists in crisis situations (humanitarian, business, economic, etc..) during the day to reflect on how communication can help in these adverse scenarios.

Will be a total of 16 communications experts from the university, media, business, government and social organizations participating altruistically and selflessly, and all proceeds will go to a conference of social work of the City of the Sun .

As he discussed the co-organizer of the day, Professor José Carlos Losada, during the presentation ceremony, held today in the building of convalescence, raised a few months ago how the Faculty could assist in Lorca.

"It was a moral obligation, as academics and as citizens of this region and we believe in providing direct assistance to organizations that were independent of any government assistance."

After an analysis of the aid requested by the Project opted FTAA (Alternative to Street), which held the Daughters of Charity of Lorca to integrate children and young people from 4 to 16 years in Uptown City at real risk of social exclusion.

More than 100 young people participating in this project, which receives no subsidy and offering training, cultural, recreational and leisure activities to young people and social follow-up work and family.

All proceeds in Congress, either via registration (smaller for students and university staff, unemployed and living in Lorca) and by donations will go to the FTAA project and the reconstruction of its facilities badly damaged by earthquakes.

The dean of the School of Communication and Information, José Vicente Rodriguez, said in the presentation that the center represents and works for the Region of Murcia.

For its part, the rector of Coordination and Communication, María Ángeles Esteban said that this initiative is another example of the level of solidarity that you try to print to all activities of the University of Murcia.

Closed the ceremony the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Development and Training, Fernando Martin, who thanked the faculty and said that is not the first time you do something towards the reconstruction of Lorca, referring to last year's teachers course of the Universidad del Mar donated their fees.

The presentation was also on the other organizer, Prof. Leonarda Inmaculada García, who said that they are ambitious in their goals and expect to fill the venue, the auditorium of the Faculty of Economics and Business, with 600 attendees.
