Health launches campaign "If you drink, drink with-strings" for young people to moderate alcohol consumption during the Bando (07/04/2012)

The distribution of campaign material has been done in secondary schools and high school, in the Associations of Parents of Students, Health Centers and other municipal services Municipal Health Service has conducted several studies to understand the behavior of adolescents in this holiday

The Department of Social Welfare and Health, which runs María del Carmen Pelegrin, implements, as every year, a prevention campaign on the risks associated with alcohol consumption, particularly targeting youth and adolescents, but where it is requires the participation of all society, especially parents, educators and health administrations.

The main objective of this campaign is to invite young people think about drinking alcohol.

The latest study by the National Drug Plan on substance use in children, Estudes 2010, notes that nearly 60% of Spanish young people between 14 and 18 has been drunk at some time, over half (52.9% ) did in the last twelve months and nearly one in three (35.6%) got drunk in the last 30 days (versus 29% who registered the last survey in 2008), the consumption pattern has changed in the sense that drunkenness has gone from being a consequence of drinking to be the objective.

Data from this survey, conducted every two years to about 30,000 students in Spain, show that alcohol remains the substance whose consumption is more widespread among this age group, followed by snuff and cannabis, with the following prevalence :

Alcohol: 73.6%.

Snuff: 32.4%.

Cannabis: 26.4%.

To this end, the Municipal Plan on Drug Dependence, work is done in recent years various programs to prevent alcohol consumption among young people, and specifically during the festival of Spring, since 2000 with different slogans alluding to alcohol intake and the associated risks ("If you go, drink puts you on your knees", "Fun or routine 'You make the difference", "Decides to decide for you, you" "Do not be sheep"), especially the day of the Bando de la Huerta.

During the course of 2011/12 were carried out prevention programs involving more than 8,500 young people between 12 and 17.

The Bando de la Huerta de Murcia is a unique event in which citizen participation reached its highest levels, is a day of celebration and sharing, among other things, food and drink, sometimes to excess especially alcohol.

This has been a concern of the Municipal Health Services for the risks involved, hence we wanted to meet with other studies, adolescent behavior that day.

The latest study by the Municipal Health Service on "Main activities and patterns of alcohol and other drugs by young Murcia during the day of the Bando de la Huerta 2008", last survey was conducted to 2,999 young students from 2 nd, 3 rd , 4th year high school and 1 from 17 secondary schools in the municipality of Murcia, left us the following information:

The average age is 15 years, of which 94% by age range between 13 and 17.

The gender distribution is 49.3 male and 50.7 female.

He botelleo 58.4%.

As age increases consumption also increase from 29% at 13 to 76% at 17 years.

Believe they have taken an excessive amount of alcohol in 11.6% of 13 years and 51.6% of 17.

This same item for girls is 10.3% for 13 years and 38.7% for 17.

When asked "if they had any unpleasant situation on the Bando de la Huerta"

38.2% recognized that got drunk.

8.3% had an accident (especially falls).

20.4% had arguments, fights or fights (with friends, family, family and peers).

This, together with factors such as adolescent characteristics, cultural factors and social permissiveness towards consumption, low perception of risk, etc.., Makes young people are a susceptible population of developing further the risks associated with the consumption :

Traffic accidents.

Aggressive behavior and violence (including gender-based violence).

Spread of sexually transmitted infections.

Unwanted pregnancies.

Physical effects of drunkenness.

In response to these risks, this year's campaign "YES BABY, BABY CON-SEQUENCES" places particular emphasis on preventing some of them, such as unprotected sex, traffic accidents and the consequences.

The material consists of an adhesive dispensing with the prohibition of alcoholic beverages to minors (as recorded by the Regional Drug Law of year 1997) and a poster with three risk situations for alcohol consumption.

The deal has been done in schools to teach Secondary Education and Baccalaureate, the Associations of Parents of Students, Health Centers and other municipal services such as youth centers, libraries, women, different rocks huertanas and during the weekend of the holidays will be distributed in areas of nightlife, bars, clubs, etc..

We used a total of 2,000 posters and markers to ban alcohol sales to minors.
