The City Council and Energy HC renew their commitment to fight climate change (20/01/2012)

The Mayor, chairman of German, has this morning signed a collaboration agreement to develop policies for energy conservation and efficiency

Policies promoting measures that contribute to making in a municipality Murcia increasingly sustainable and which promote a better quality of life for its inhabitants represent a priority for the City.

Now, the actions aimed at combating climate change, driven through the Local Energy Agency (German), again expands its resources and means, in this case with the collaboration of CH Energy.

For this purpose Miguel Ángel Cámara, Mayor and President of German, has this morning signed a collaboration agreement with Joao de Castro Fernando Silvano Rosa, HC Energía representative in Murcia, in order to regulate the commitments and actions that will be framed this cooperation.

The ultimate goal is shared by both parties, undertake joint policies designed to promote and encourage local savings measures and energy efficiency and combating climate change in Murcia, only the promotion of renewable energy.

Under the agreement signed this morning, HC Energía participate and collaborate in all activities since ALEM.

HC Energy, the company supplies gas and electricity that operates in the Region of Murcia, provides natural gas to 22 towns and through network of 1,472 kilometers covers 86% of the population by 92,500 points of supply.

The importance of these agreements is based largely on the responsibility of cities to advance sustainable development and build environments that respect the environment.

The Mayor, Miguel Angel House, recalled that the success of sustainable energy policies and the fight against climate change worldwide up to the cities, where it consumes 80% of energy.

Therefore, local authorities have "a key role in improving the sustainability of municipalities to be planners, regulators and promoters of their development."

Since its establishment in 2008, the Agency leads the Local Strategy for Climate Change Murcia-aimed at reducing 240,000 tons of CO2 in 2012 - manages the Municipal Office in charge of the Bicycle-channel integration of this means of transport in the municipality, and coordinates the activities associated with European networks working to find new ways to increase savings and energy efficiency, and address and the fight against climate change.

In this regard, the Chamber has been selected by the Eurocities Network to lead the "Smart Cities" or Smart Cities, an initiative of major European cities for the development of intelligent, digital technologies to support action against climate change.

Murcia Mayor chaired the Eurocities Mobility Forum from 2008 to 2010 and currently is director of the European working group for energy efficiency of this network.
