The activity of family businesses in the region improved slightly, according barometer (20/07/2011)

The activity of family businesses in the Region of Murcia increased slightly during the first half of 2011, has concluded a barometer of the indicators released today by the Family Business Chair at the University of Murcia.

During the first six months of the year, 21% of family businesses have improved their turnover, 31% have increased their investments, 15% had high sales prices of their products, 21% has created jobs and 14% expanded export levels.

These data have been reflected in the indicator of business confidence and future expectations, which stood at -4.4 points, representing an increase of almost 15 points over the end of 2010.

However, the companies surveyed showed doubts about the immediate future, and fear, in this order, a decrease in demand, financial problems, employment levels and all matters related to the lack of confidence in the economy.

The barometer, prepared by the Centre for Family Business of the Chair mentioned through interviews with 62 companies, examines the perceptions, problems and needs of a group that represents 85% of all businesses in the Region of Murcia.

As the survey data collected, 52% of family businesses sees its situation is similar to last year, 37% said that has worsened and the remaining 11% believes it has improved, which again shows a slight improvement over previous periods.

To reverse the current scenario, most businesspeople think it necessary measures to ensure financial solvency, working to deepen the reform to create jobs and change the orientation of the management of the situation by the political class.

The barometer was presented at a ceremony held at the Faculty of Law, University of Murcia, which was attended by the director of the Chair, John Monreal, the Vice Rector of Students and Employment, Maribel Sanchez-Mora, director of the Institute of Development Juan Hernandez Albarracín.
