The Department of Environment advised to check the tire pressure to be more efficient (15/07/2011)

It seeks to inform drivers of the importance of maintaining proper inflation pressure of tires for fuel economy, durability and safety

The Department of Environment, through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change (ALEM) wants to use the arrival of summer to remember that the inflation pressure of tires is one of the key factors for the energy efficiency of vehicles and keep it in top condition can save fuel, reduce wear and gain confidence.

ALEM advises users to check once a month the inflation pressure, including spare wheel.

It is also important, always do it with cold tires and, if it is hot, add 0.3 bar pressure recommended by the manufacturer.

When in doubt, consult the manufacturer's recommendations listed in the user manual and inside the trap in the fuel tank.

ALEM addition advises when to change tires do for those that are more efficient from an energy standpoint.

Keep in mind, in this sense, a tire with low pressure increases rolling resistance and therefore fuel consumption.

The average number of vehicles circulating in the European Union with an inflation pressure of between 0.2 and 0.4 bar lower than that recommended by the manufacturer, an increase in fuel consumption of up to 3%, and a greater tire wear and a loss of security by increasing instability and risk of bursting in adverse weather conditions.

For example, tourism and environment in metropolitan use with an inflation pressure of 0.4 bars lower than that recommended by the manufacturer may result in increased consumption of about 30 liters a year and a reduction in life tire eight months.
