The telecare service users made 807 visits to inform them about the measures to be taken to prevent the effects of heat (15/07/2011)

In the municipality of Murcia has a total of 2718 people registered for the service.

In 2010 it made a total of 12,401 calls from the plant, there were 2188 visits to deliver the recommendations and made a total of 537 visits to users at risk

Every year, the municipal Telecare service of the City of Murcia (Televida), highlights actions to prevent, minimize and address the effects on the health of service users can lead to high temperatures.

In the municipality of Murcia has a total of 2718 service users.

Of total users, 121 are in the risk level 1, 475 are at Level 2, 10 are at the highest risk (level 3).

In total there are 606 users at risk.

These measures apply until 15 September to all the people using the Telecare service bulletin, but in a more special to those most vulnerable because of age, dependency, isolation and chronic diseases.

The number of staff of the service is 36 people.

Service performance measures for extreme Telecare

Preventive:

Apply to all service users of Telecare.

- Recommendations to avoid or reduce the impact of temperature extremes on health: These recommendations will be provided from the Central and delivered as a brochure to all the users visited by the Telecare service professionals (Coordinators area Mobile Unit installers and technicians)

- From Central Telecare is consulted daily the website of the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) transmitting information in advance of the expected temperature indicating whether there is some level of risk in each area scheduled for that day (yellow, orange, red) for both professional service to the users who want to know what time and temperature will, just have to make a call from Terminal Telecare.

- Identification in the service database of the users more vulnerable to the effects of extreme temperatures according to levels of socio-health risk, risk 1, 2 and 3, which facilitates the intervention when needed.

Intervention:

Apply to the users most vulnerable older than 80 who live alone / as and those not so, having undergone an emergency as a result of extreme temperatures.

- Implementation of a protocol for detection of symptoms against temperature extremes and intervention in first aid for Central staff.

- To strengthen the follow-up to the people using the service: calls from the Central and personal visits by the Department of Coordination Zone (Workers / Social ace) and Mobile Unit.

- Take care that all the users at risk, have contact with your local key (mainly Risk 2 and 3).

- Strengthen information with Social Services professionals, weekly incident report is prepared which is sent to their own social services.

Until July 11 807 interventions were made by different departments (Area Coordinators, Mobile Units and Technical installers) in which the recommendations were delivered to prevent the effects of heat.

To date have been detected in the municipality of Murcia 1 case related to high temperatures:

- On July 2 serves a user of Casillas.

The user makes contact with the central telecare is reporting that dizzy.

In mobile unit visit, after the values ​​obtained, moves to the Emergency Coordination Center, who decide which users should be taken to hospital.

After follow-up from the central telecare, daughter of users report that has been discharged and that the reason for the emergency was hypotension resulting from high temperatures.

There have been no calls from the Central, not the orange level has been reached and / or red alert, although all calls are given recommendations for preventing the effects of heat.

To date there has been in the municipality of Murcia a total of 8 days on yellow alert.

From the Service Center has taken every call users, both received and issued to commemorate the recommendations to be followed in extreme temperatures, reaching a total of 4433 calls.

Thus, we detected 4 cases related to the effects of heat, and all cases were treated by the mobile unit itself, in 2 of them required the presence of the 112 emergency service and none required transfer to hospital.
