An investigation by the University of Murcia has estimated the monetary value attributed to Spanish society avoid a fatality traffic accident in 1.4 million euros, a figure that may use the Traffic Department (DGT) for account the social costs of these claims.
The estimate of this study is the result of a contract between the University of Murcia and the DGT, will allow this economic evaluation of road safety measures before implementation.
The estimated value of statistical life in Spain is similar to those in other advanced motorized countries.
The research team is composed of professors from the University of Murcia José María Abellán, Jorge Eduardo Martínez, Fernando Ignacio Sánchez and Ildefonso Mendez, a professor at the University Pablo de Olavide de Sevilla José Luis Pinto.
