The City Council gave land for the construction of six new schools
The year 2011 will bring the expansion of educational facilities in the municipality.
Murcia City Council has given land for construction by the Autonomous Community of new schools in El Raal, expansion of CFEIP Antonio Díaz (The Garres), a new school in El Ranero, new HEIs in the north, Conservatory of Dance in the north and New College of Art and Design.
The Department of Education and Youth, directed by María Dolores Sánchez, will continue in 2011 with the maintenance of school facilities in the municipality, expanding care for 13 new buildings, built by the Autonomous Community in 2010, representing an increase of 8,000 meters squares surface and 130 new trees.
In addition, all facilities are working on initiatives for energy and water consumption, regular checking of water leaks, off and on the outbreaks of the patios, waste recycling and using biodegradable cleaning materials.
During 2010, activities have been conducted in 108 schools, with 135 works, funded by the City Council, Ministry of Education, Plan E and Feder funds, with a total estimated investment of 23.7 million euros.
Among the major works include the expansion of the school Our Lady of Fuensanta (Beniaján), with an investment of 913,381 euros, extending from the center of Isabel Corvera Bellvis (650,000 euros), expanding the school's Codorniu Churra Carolina (1.2 million euros), construct a new school in El Palmar (phase II, 2.5 million euros), construct a new school in El Raal (3.5 million), expansion of the Virgin of Guadalupe School (301,731 euros) , extension of two classrooms at school Children's Mill La Alberca (147,000 euros), a new flag of Children in school Lobosillo Professor Tierno Galván (425,000 euros), expanding the multipurpose room at school Los Alamos ( 448,500 euros), expansion of three classrooms in the school Child Luis Costa (281,500 euros), the second stage of functional adequacy of the school building Our Lady of Carmen (1.4 million), expansion of the school Our Lady of Courts Nonduermas (300,000 euros), expansion of four classrooms Children at school Our Lady of the Angels of Rincon de Seca (417,000 euros), expanding the college Pablo Gil Castle Sangonera la Seca (375,300 euros) and expansion of school Dorrego Antonio Delgado Sangonera la Verde (900,000 euros), among many other works.
During 2011 the Department will maintain the additional educational programs and activities in order to provide support to schools, developing complementary activities to the curriculum, using the city and its environment as a resource dediáctico.
The commitment is to maintain a classroom activity (3043 units) to reach 67,795 schoolchildren in the municipality.

During the 2009/2010 academic year 2680 activities have been developed, with the participation of 63,655 students in Nursery, Primary, Secondary, High School and Vocational Training.
In addition, in 2011 the Department enhance the participation of citizens in education through projects and grants Municipal School Boards Associations and Federations of AMPAS.
Library
The 16 libraries and reading rooms have city with 235,000 volumes, of which 187,082 are books and other documents and other audiovisual material.
During 2010 has opened the new library of James, and the refurbishment of the library Cabezo de Torres.
