The Department of Environment and Urban Quality has spent months working on the draft ordinance to regulate the production and management of construction waste and demolition waste, because, although since 1999 been implementing control mechanisms of the construction waste, now is to standardize protocols for and adapt to the Royal Decree 105/2008 for the production and waste management in construction

This draft has been sent to the Directorate General of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, the College of Architects, Technical Architects Association, the Association of Real Estate, CROEM, the Regional Federation of Employers Construction and Business Organizations Federation of Transport, since the objective of the Department is that an ordinance is the result of consensus and the institutions concerned shall participate in its development.

The Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-Cache, this morning held a meeting with representatives of some of these institutions to discuss and explore the contributions and suggestions included in the ordinance to regulate the production and waste management construction.

With this ordinance the City Council seeks to ensure compliance with the obligations that the rules on construction waste and demolition requires producers thereof, for promoting prevention, reuse and recycling of waste by ensuring that adequate treatment, encouraging the revaluation and reuse.

At this meeting it was agreed that the College of Architects is that, from the data available to the City Council based on experience in the management of inert waste, design a formula adapted to the reality of the municipality to obtain a calculation most correct of the amount of waste produced, thus resolving the difficulties now when assessing them.

Similarly, it was decided that the City Council, along with CROEM, FRECOM and Architects Association, organized a conference aimed at popularizing experts, promoters and entrepreneurs in order to publicize the whole process of the correct management of waste, making emphasis on different treatment options.
