Murcia will host in 2020 the National Congress of Parks and Public Gardens.
This was decided yesterday by the assembly meeting in Estepona where this year's edition is celebrated.
The Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, explained that "we are grateful that you have chosen our city to organize such an important congress as it is a way of recognizing the immense work that is being done on the topic of Murcia River as reference of transforming project of city through the gardening or the Gardens of Spring that already are a reference for the tourist attraction and the recovery of our cultural roots and that now become a model of reference for all the national gardening that will come to know these projects.
It is also a recognition of the work done by all workers who, on a daily basis, are responsible for caring for and maintaining the parks and gardens of the municipality. "
Thus, around 500 experts in parks and gardens, including the most prominent in Spain, will visit Murcia in April 2020 to attend the congress that will take place in the Auditorium.
We must remember that Murcia already organized this congress of the AEPJP in 1998.
The councilor stressed yesterday in the presentation of the candidacy that "the city has multiple parks and gardens in which to make technical visits, some of them of special interest as the Floridablanca Garden, declared of Cultural Interest in the category of Garden Historic in 2017, or the garden and promenade of the Malecón, BIC since 1982. Murcia also has the last urban vestige of what was a Hispanic-Muslim garden in the Huerto López Ferrer ".
According to Guillén "the activity focuses on the more than 3,000 parks and gardens in the metropolitan area and the 55 districts that make up almost 900 km2 of the municipality of Murcia.
With more than 117,000 trees depending on our gardening services and more than 15,000 units of equipment, Murcia is ready to enjoy the outdoors, and to enjoy the experts from all over Spain. "
He also recalled that "the 'Spring Gardens' is one of our new initiatives that has been a great success, and that has filled for 3 consecutive years many points of our city with floral sculptures, vertical gardens of great technical difficulty and proposals of very special gardening.
