The City Council is mobilizing a device of 176 people next week to participate in the simulation exercise of the UME (20/04/2018)

There will be 50 incidents, among them, floods, traffic accidents, collapse of buildings and evacuation of infant and primary schools.

The Segura river will be the scene of a search and rescue operation for canoeists, runners and fishermen who, at the time of the event, were in the urban section of the riverbed, between the Manterola gangway and the Puente Nuevo bridge.

176 people from different municipal services will be mobilized next week to participate in the simulation of emergency of national interest that each year organizes the UME and will take place in Murcia from 23 to 27 April.

The exercise will require the intervention of 3,500 people, among which is the specific device of the City of Murcia, composed of 37 local police - in addition to those required by the ordinary service - 60 firefighters, 45 members of civil protection, 20 technicians Municipal Planning, 10 SEMAS workers -Service Social Emergency-, 3 Works and Projects and 1 Health service.

In total, there will be 50 incidents that will take place in the municipality and affect various properties and populations, as explained today by the Councilor for Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection.

Lola Sánchez, in the presentation made together with José Ramón Carrasco, general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies.

It will be a few days with an 'extreme emergency that will help us to consolidate the coordination between the different administrations to show that we are able to face situations of extreme difficulty and attend to the population in an effective and consistent way.

Citizens must trust that no matter how complex the reality, we have the resources to respond, "explained Lola Sánchez.

Earthquake in the Alhama fault

The day of greatest intensity will be Monday, when 30 events will happen.

The earthquake, which took place around 7:57 am at the Alhama fault, with an epicenter on the section between Alhama de Murcia and Alcantarilla, will lead to an emergency situation in the capital city of Murcia and nearby affected populations, mainly the New Javalí, El Palmar, Los Dolores and Beniaján, as well as the southern area of ​​Murcia capital.

The City Council will activate the Municipal Emergency Plan, establishing the control center in the Local Police Headquarters of the Infante Juan Manuel, under the direction of the Mayor, José Ballesta, accompanied by the advisory committee with the councilors whose powers are involved in the events;

the head of operations, and the advanced command post, which will include the intervention, health, logistics, order, social action and damage assessment groups.

From there, all the devices will be activated, in coordination with the Autonomous Community.

They have to deal with building collapses with possible victims, eviction from educational centers, damage to electricity and water supply and damage to roads and rail communications.

An exercise, without risk to the population

During four days, there will be situations of risk of flooding, environmental, chemical or transport of dangerous goods.

In this sense, Lola Sanchez has reiterated that it will be 'a great simulation, but there is no risk to the population', so she wanted to reiterate a message of tranquility to all citizens because 'although they will observe a deployment of civilian and military means It is a training exercise, without real risk, and at all times it will not affect the residents of the municipality.

The Segura River, protagonist

In the exercise there will be virtual, simulation and real incidents.

Among the latter will be the intervention motivated by the rupture of the Contraparada, which will create a rapid rise in the level of water that will affect the drag of people who perform sports on the urban stretch of the river, between the Manterola footbridge and the Puente Nuevo bridge.

The event will take place at 1:00 pm and intervention in search and rescue of Local Police, SEIS, Civil Protection, Red Cross and Federation of Rescue and First Aid will be necessary.

There will also be real intervention scenarios in La Ă‘ora, where the damage assessment, social action and intervention of the natural environment groups will act, as well as in Guadalupe and Javalí Nuevo, where work will be carried out on damage assessment in BIC.

In the fifty or so incidents planned in the municipality, there will be traffic accidents and rail accidents, collapse of buildings, gas leaks, injured victims and sanitary transports.

In addition, evacuation plans will be implemented in five infant and primary schools in Javalí Nuevo (2), Puebla de Soto, La Ă‘ora, and Era Alta.
